Competition MM Video?

i'm just getting into pumping up my diesel and as i get more and more power i start wondering what my weak link is? i have 275's and a comp right now, i have a set of mentals on order. with just the 275's and comp i'm afraid of dropping the clutch or even fully opening her up until 3rd. is this something i sould worry about? i've heard that for drags u drop the clutch in 2nd @ about 2000rpm's? i guess what i'm saying is, please let me know just how hard i can whoop my running gear? :D :D

Well, with my 475HP truck, I went WOT grossing 27,000 in 1st gear,, with somewhere around 5K tongue weight, I was spinning the tires... 2nd gear wouldn't spin, but the truck sure would torque up!!!

What breaks first on a stock truck? the Stock clutch will slip. then, the input shaft usually around 550HP. The turbo will blow up somewhere around 450HP (Wastegate disabled), the VP44 will die of low fuel pressure right around 400HP (using HP Constantly)

Stock clutch needs replaced at 350HP, Lift pump at 400, turbo at 450, billet shafts at 500. Differential, u-joints, motor, don't need touched.

I'm at 480-500RWHP and 116K miles, and a stock differential, u-joints, motor (top/bottom end)

Have fun. The motor is a strong one.

BTW, What breaks first??? Probably your wallet :D

Since you have the 6 speed, you have an 1&3/8 input shaft so no worries there. Basically, you need a clutch. I will gaurantee with the comp and the mentals you will eat the clutch in no time. My OE clutch was boat anchor material at 1800 miles. I replaced it then and have not looked back. I have not dynoed, but from all that have, i am guessing i am the mid 400's on HP. Oh yeah, if you want to get the most out of the mentals you are going to need more turbo.

Were you trying to do your best impersonation of the World Famous big rig pulling truck "Liberty Belle"?

Matt - if you're not breaking parts, you're not making enough power!

A little. But mt spoke turns brown when boost comes up, instead of Mitchells "Nuclear Explosion in a tar Pit" type smoke.

thanx for all your input, i glad to see that the motor will hold up Oo. everything is cheap in comparison. when it comes times to race does anyone have any tips, what gear to start in, what rpms to drop the clutch, is it ok to run above 1,200f egts for that short a distance, do u start in 4x4? btw i have 3:55 gears if that affects anything. with the comp on 5 and a set of mentals with a 5" straight and air filter what kinda times can i expect? once again thanks guys:D :D i cant wait to SMOKE some nip rides on the track, doing it on the street is getting to easy ;):-laf

:-laf When I race the damn needle wraps around to 1600 in a hurry :-laf then I let out of it and get back in it again to bring EGT's down... ... but yeah 1200 is ok for short distance..... mine see's at least 1000 everyday... . 1300 after a sustained amount of time is melting point!

Didin't early 6-speeds have the 1-1/4" input shaft? His is a '00, just something to keep in mind.

Puffin coal,

Launching in 3rd (if your clutch can take it, stock one won't) is nice simply because you don't have to hunt for 3rd if you launched in 2nd. In the 1/4 mile no worries with EGT's, let 'er rip. I just started launching in 4x4, once I get it right I think it will be sweet. I red-line the tach and slip (don't drop) the clutch into submission. :D

Have fun,

Rob

My Dad's D-Max got a crankcase full of Diesel Fuel and no oil.

Well, My truck is back in severe duty.

Hooking up to tow 30,000 GCW tomorow at 6:30am for 3. 5 straight. With my HX-40/18 and "big" injectors I'll probably be sitting between 1,000 - 1,300* the complete way, unless I'm accelerating, then I'll be pulling 1,300-1,600*.

As ar as drag racing,, It will depend on your turbo for a launch. With my Stock HX-35/12 I launched at 2K with a little clutching slipping as I rolled out. With my '40 I launch around 2,200 and slip the clutch a little while letting RPM climb while rolling out.

*I* Don't build boost on the line, although for faster E. T. s you can/should.

puffincoal, give me a call Monday night or Tuesday, and we could talk "nerd".

I'm about to head out to the track right now. I'll be out there from 12:00 to 1:30am

Yes, very good point, i didn't even pay attention to the year of the truck. If you have an ETC, you have the 1&1/4, if it is an ETH, you got the 1&3/8.
