What cam to use in my '03

Thinking about adding a cam to the truck down the road. For those of you 3rd gen guys, who did you use and how do you like it? Also, what does it cost to have one installed?

Might wanna pm jwilliams3, I believe I saw a schied cam in his sig. I wasnt aware anyone else had a cam out, except maybe piers?

I have the Scheid street cam in mine. Can't really say it did this or that. So much was done to my truck at one time it's hard to really say. But from what I've read on here I'm a lot cooler then most with the same power set-up. Plus she sound mean when idling.

I believe Don at F1 makes a few grinds too.

I have read that a cam helps the most on the top end power? Is this correct fellas?

Depends on what grind you are installing. But most street/towing cams will spool the turbo about a 100 rpm quicker, drop usable egt's by 100 degrees & about a 1. 5mpg gain in fuel mileage. The torque is carried into a higher rpm band much further, before dropping off.

I have the Scheid Street Cam.

Yeah, definitely breaths better and sounds better.

I noticed a gain in mileage when I first installed the cam.



The engine also runs alot smoother.

I would definitely do it again in a heart beat.

A friend of mine just put a Don cam in his and it cost $600? and It made the trucks exhaust sound a lot deeper not that raspy sound of a straight piped 3rd gen and he put it in starting fri nite tearing it down and got it back together by Sat. nite! Its a perty big tear down but he gained a steady 2mpg!

For those of us who have to suffer through emmisions tests, will a cam make it difficult to pass?
