I have owned two 2004 Rams and both had side mirror vibration on the driver side. Makes looking in them for a view backwards difficult if you want a good detail image, since it is bouncing around a lot.
Ive been told the linkage behind the mirror gets worn/loose over time. Only fix is to replace the mirror.
Is this true? And where's a good source for a new OEM mirror?
Any and all advice and experiences welcome.

Years ago there was a thread started by a TDR member that detailed how to take the mirrors apart and use vinyl tubing to fix the connection points that were prone to wear and vibration. IIRC, the loose connection points were the little plastic dowels that slip into some-part of holder on the mirror linkage assembly. Unfortunately, I have never been able to find that thread again, but it worked very well for the OP and if you are at all mechanically inclined, I believe it might be better to rebuild your existing mirrors using common sense, youtube videos on how to dissamble them, and vinyl tubing as opposed to buying aftermarket ones that will likely vibrate right out of the box due to excessive manufacturer tolerances.

All that being said, if you ARE considering replacing your mirror, I understand that the tow mirrors from 1A Auto are a better quality aftermarket assembly as opposed to any of the other "el cheapo" varieties available from eBay or amazon. Furthermore, 1A maintains a fairly robust forum presence, at least on Cumminsforum, and they are fairly quick to address any problems that people are having with their products. They also have instructional videos on installing their products and they are a family owned business.

I tried a tow mirror from A1 auto. I thought the truck was experiencing an earthquake it vibrated so bad. Used Oem mirrors at a reasonable price are hard to find.

By any chance did you contact 1A Auto customer service and see if they would replace it with another??
I have seen them readily take care of customers who have a problem with their products.

I take some of the foam that’s used in fish tank filters, move the mirror as far one way as it will go and stuff a chunk in behind the mirror, then do the same on the other three sides. It doesn’t take a lot. The foam is very porous so it won’t hold water and it’s soft enough to allow the mirror to still be moved yet firm enough to offer just enough support to stop the vibration.
