I wonder if anyone has info, or a good educated guess as to the best Comp setting for least generation of internal combustion byproducts and lube contamination? *I* would sorta assume the more aggressive power levels would generate more smoke, fuel and contamination - but would we be better off with the Comp completely off for lowest contamination, or would some of the lower settings alter timing enough to run cleaner than with it off? I've been running mine at about 1x3 now that most of our trips are unloaded and around town, purely on the hope that it might actually run internally cleaner that way than at stock injection timing with the Comp off...

Any info?

Gary,

My truck produces the least smoke on 1x1 compared to any other setting or with no box at all. I would assume that would mean it is the cleanest internally also.

Gary, mine produces less smoke at level one than if turned off. I was told one time that with larger injectors, level one reduces the mount of fuel to a lower level than with the Comp turned off.

Gary,

There are a lot of variables with that question. Different turbos, injectors, transmissions, etc. will have a lot to do with the answer. In my case the turbo spools much faster on 5x5 then on 1x1, so that it is "up on boost" much quicker and spends less time in the "dirty spoolup" phase. Now at WOT, on boost, 1x1 runs much cleaner. I really don't think there is a one-setting-is-better, for all situations. Depending on how I drive my truck, and the options that I have, the altitude I live at, the "cleanest" setting varies. Having said that I drive most of the time on 1x5. Quick spool, and very "clean" exhaust.
