Gotta Love A 2 Year Old...

Sunday Drive

Ok, I'm on my 7th cordless phone in 3 years. They are all junk. Either they don't last or they have terrible qualities, like echo in the earpiece while talking, or malfunctioning messagetakers. I'm looking for a call ID, messagetaking phone that has good audio qualities, and is reliable. Is 2. 4Ghz better than 900Mhz? What are your thoughts. I have an old basic no frills 900 Mhz Uniden in my Bedroom and it's great. I can't replicate this phone in one that has features.

Wayne, I've got a Uniden , 2. 4Ghz. with caller ID. and it is without a doubt the best phone I have had . As far as the 2. 4 vs. the 900 , I haven't been able to tell much difference in sound quality, however , mine is a digital phone , and the difference between digital , and not , is a large one . Just my 2cents.

Oh yhea if possible if you really like the phone, please give me the model number so I can check it out. I was just at http://cordlessmart.com/

You have to see the outrageous 60 mile range phones there! I was liking it untill I saw that they aren't FCC approved. I won't go there- I don't want to cause a plane crash or something. I'm less than a mile off of Newark's flight path!

I personally like the Panasonic 2. 4GHZ phones. I've had one for 2 years and bought my folks and brother one. The range is about 300 yards or so with a normal setup. Voice quality is great and is scrambled so others can't tune in. The new ones have more features than you could ever remember. I do like the caller ID on the phone and call-waiting caller ID.

I've gone with Panasonic 900MHZ phones for about 5 years now. I've replaced it only for stupid reasons. (left on roof of truck after repairing garage door opener, 2 year old son dropped it in wash machine, and an un-named person (read: angry wife:eek: ) turning it into a projectile)

I tried the 2. 4 GHZ (or whatever it is) and found that it had a lot off interference occasionally. When I returned it, I was told that a microwave operates at or near the same freq. Went and found my Panny 900 at another store.

I electrified my kitchen phone outlet so my cordlessphone (with answering machine) is wall mounted with NO wires comming from it. Only a very few have noticed, but it is nice. :D

I have two Unidens. Both are 900 Mhz. They work good. I think the 2. 4 Ghz is supposed to be harder to hear on a scanner, it's spread spectrum digitally scrambled, etc. etc.

I have a scanner, and I havent been able to recieve even the 900, and my scanner will get those frequencies. :D

I had a V-Tek (sp?) before this. What a POS. Brought it back to Sears for a refund.

I have a Uniden EXP91, 900 mhz. It is 5 years old and I have not had any problems with it. I had two Sonys previously... both were junk and didn't even last 2 years.

Siemens 2 line 2. 4 Ghz. All the popular features. Buy one base and add as many handsets as you want. Haven't noticed any more interference than my old 900's (various brands) but no more range either.

2. 4 Panasonic, with caller id, extreme range, yadda yadda yadda. I have tried others, even the Uniden, but they dont seem as clear, or have the same range.

With my 2. 4 I can talk on the phone about 100-150 yards away from the base.

2. 4's are so cheap now, why get a 900 mhz.

Siemens

I have had the Siemens 2. 4GHz for about a year and it kicks butt. I have had Sony's 900MHz (crap) and Panasonic's 2. 4G (all the numbers wore off and POS died at 2. 5 years).

I have thirty acres and can use the Siemens everywhere in my "yard" with no static.

The only bad thing about the 2. 4GHZ phones is if you have a wireless network in the house. The 802. 11b networks use the 2. 4GHZ band and are not compatible with the phones. Just something you should know.

So far what I see here and on Epinion.com, I have it narrowed down to either Uniden or siemens. Thanks for Helping!

Some of the troubled ones I've had were GE (no suprise- it was cheap), Sony- a big letdown, Vtech, an older style Uniden from 1. 5 Yrs ago and Panasonic.

Wyane;

You must be jinxed!!

We have two cordless phones; a Vtech, 900, in the Kitchen. Its 7-8 years old. In the Living room we have Southwestern Bell that we have had for over 10 years. Not problem one with either, other than one battery replacement on each. The grandkids drop them and they occasionally get "lost" for a day or so, and just seem industructable.
