Cannot find CI4 rated oil?

I have a question for you motor guys out there. The other day I had my valve cover off to check valve lash, and happen to find some small pieces of rubber. The pieces look to be blueish green in color and soft? Any ideas what its from? I had this motor built by Scheid and called them to see what it might be and they of course had no idea??? Could it be possibly something from the valve seals? Not sure what else could be up there in the head? And then what now, where is all this in my motor?#@$%!

Any help would be great!!!!

Thanks

That would be my first guess, pieces of valve seals was my thought before even finishing your post. I'm interested to hear what others think.

After finding this picture on line of the seals in my motor I have no doubt as to what the pieces are from.

Now I just have to figure out as to why my SCHEID built motor is eating valve seals??? And I am sure that pieces of rubber in the oiling system will be great for things?

run without them! they are expanding with heat and chewing themselves up and what little bit of oil runs down the exhaust valve cools it a little and doesn't affect usage to terrible. only my opinion and it works for me.

Run with out them? I don't think that I'll be doing that, I already am having a oil consumption problem and a with- blueish smoke. So I'm guessing that it is probably my valve seals causing this?

Also called Scheid and told them about my problem, so now they want me to haul it down there and not run it anymore? Not real excited to haul my truck 7-8 hours to there shop, because this is the truck that is supposed to do the hauling?

Just be happy they are willing to help you with what is undoubtedly a rare problem - it's not their fault you live where you do, and NO outfit will send techs and equipment to YOUR door! ;)

Unfortunate perhaps - but that's just the way it is! ;)

I don't recall asking them to send anyone to my door?

Plus when you spend $18K in parts and labor to a professional shop you kind of want things to be right! Thats why we spend big bucks and do things with people who have the know how, So we don't have problems down the road.

Just out of curiosity, what DO you expect them to do?

I don't know of ANY defect free supplier or product - crap happens, even to the best of outfits - the real test of a good outfit is their willingness, within reason, to correct errors - what do you consider proper service from them in THIS case?

Not trying to push your buttons or start anything, and a rant is OK I guess, if it makes you feel better, you are obviously dissatisfied with their proposed solution - but if you are unhappy with the turn of events and offered solution, what more would it take from them make you happy?

It's a fair question... ;):D

I certainly agree that a long haul back to their shop is a disappointment - but don't know what else they could reasonably be expected to do under the circumstances...

I think I can help to answer this. My truck is at Scheids right now having somewhat the same thing done to it. I live 7 to 8 hours away from them also. If I'm dropping 18K or more on the truck to be built... . the last thing you would think is that you'll have a problem 5000 miles later. You'd think with their reputation you'd have a engine built to last a long time without to many issues if any at all.

Of course things happen but, the problem he's having SHOULD NOT have happen. A engine built from the ground up is like a brand new engine and should last like one. Yeah, you see problems with new trucks off the lot but, rarely is it this type of problem.

No it's not Scheids fault he lives so far away but, to inconvenience him like this after spending 18K is wrong. They should make sure things are right for someone whether they live next door or across the country.

We see rants on the boards about dealers all the time... what' s different about this ? We also see that dealers give a lot of attitude when they should be apologetic and bend over backwards to fix a problem. I think he's getting the ladder and after dropping 18K... . that's just wrong !

Opinions and circumstances vary - you may well be right...

ON the other hand, Sheids has absolutely NO way to know what might have been done to the engine AFTER it left their shop - did someone screw around with valve adjustment, or make other internal engine mods after leaving their shop that might have caused the suspected damage?

If YOU were a shop owner at a distance from a customer, would you want to gamble YOUR time, effort and $$$ on the assumption that a reported failure issue WAS your problem - and not one caused by someone else?

There IS a limit to what even the most conscientious shop can do to reasonably cover issues of this type - if they want to stay in business!

Thanks Ty!!!! Some people can just say things so much better than what I can do trying to type on here.

Plus, I'm not really complaining that much, just disappointed that I have spent so much only to have to go back with problems, and DOWN TIME.

Plus I want people like Triton, that are having work done to have a heads up on a possible problem so they can asked questions to see if there is an issue, that's all.

Man I guess this post has rubbed someone the wrong way! Did I say that Scheid wasn't going to take a look at the problem? Just wondering!

I, for one, certainly understand your disappointment - sometimes life hands us a raw deal, and we just sorta have to roll with the punches. I sincerely hope your problem gets worked out with minimal trouble, and to your complete satisfaction.

AND, I'd like to hear more as to what $18K bought you - should be a stout and powerful engine!
