Competition Fastest auto?

I was coming home from Bakersfield last night doing about 80 mph and a Powerjoke passed me. So I thought I would see what I could do against an apparently stock 2wd PS. Well I wasn't very happy... . From about 80 mph we got on it and at about 115-118 mph the PS just pulled away. Is this normal??? What do I need to do add (maybe 275 injectors)? Also I noticed at around 120 mph the motor really flattened out as if it was losing fuel... any thoughts?

The computer defuels at 115 or so. Some one has said on here what it takes to disconnect it. I'd say try a search on speed limiter.

Good luck.

115 is fast enough for me right now. Maybe that needs BOMBed too!!!!

Those will get you there quicker, but as Fox pointed out, you will still be limited by the ECM. One of the orange/white wires can be cut and a switch put in line, which you hit to open that particular circuit when you want to go beyond the 115 - 120 MPH speed limiter in the ECM.

The VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) wire can be found within the main wire connections on firewall behind the VP44. The wire is white with an orange stripe and runs over to the PCM on the passenger side. I believe it's pin #27 in that connection on the firewall, but not positive about that. You can either cut the wire or pull the connector apart and pull the wire out without cutting it. Either way will let you run "sans limiter" :D Now, for the HP to push you past 115, I'll refer you back to Justin's reply ;)

wrknrott,

In addition to cutting the VSS, here is prescription for going for 120+mph and getting there fast.

Purchase a major fueling box and TSTPM3 Competition version, Edge Drag Racing Comp, Blue Chip Premium FMS (I hope I said that right).

This will keep your VP44 from defueling until about 3100 rpm or more, this helps alot.

Get yourself a PDR HX40 to keep the temps down.

Also a set of 100hp injectors.

Also a set of Bigger tires, like 285's 295's or 315's.

This should get you to the 130mph area, although this speed with a 7000 lb truck is dangerous and should not be tried at home!!!

If you really want to get crazy, buy a Gear Vendors overdrive.

I would imagine my top speed has been somewhere near 130mph (but who knows how accurate these speedometers are after 100mph?)

With your 3. 54 gears, auto trans, and 265 tires your truck will not go much past 115 even with the speed limiter wire disabled. The reason for this is you will reach the rpm limit the ecm will allow..... If you want to go faster you will also need larger tires.

hehehehe

Yeah, try 3. 54 gears with 35" tires. :D It's a real pig off the line, but you get nice top end... . :D Oo. Oo.

Thanks for all the input! One of the questions that comes to mind in doing some searches on the subject... . Some claim that their truck will rev to 3400 to 3600 rpm? Does the rev limiter only effect certain model years?

there are ways around this with the PSD's. :D

Ahhhh, glasshoppa now you know that a stock truck or lightly bombed truck should have a little respect for the PSD. Be glad you didn't tie into a Duramax/Allison, he would have handed you your kiester at every point in that race.

Check your tire rating

FYI -

If you want to go fast, check the ratings on your tires. Most of the larger sizes are not rated for more than 112 mph. Any faster than that and they can come apart - just ask the Ferrari in the Silver State Classic a couple of years ago.

Gee I can't try it at home. My driveway is too short.

By my calculations (damn the stock tach) I was just past 3300 rpm at 119 indicated. Maybe bigger tires are in order.

There seems to be confusion about tire speed ratings. Those are for "sustained" speeds. I wouldn't worry one bit about running "112mph" tires to 120 every now and then--so long as they're road treads and not monster mudders.

And wrknrott, I think Gary is Vacaville too, he can give you a BOMB'ed truck ride. ;)
