What do they do with vehicles after commercials

Seems like evrytime I see a car or truck commercial, they have the vehicle blasting through the water at some beach. I know and you know that this can't be good for the car. All that saltwater splashing on and in the car.



Ever wonder what they do with the car when they're done?

Sell it or scrap it?

A few years back I watched a Volvo commercial being made on the beach by LA where they were hoisting the cars up 50 feet with a crane then dropping them. Took them three tries with three different cars to get the shots they wanted. The cars were definitely scrap when they were done.

Remember the old Dodge truck commercials where they dropped the truck from high up?? I heard thats how they unvielied the 2nd gen trucks in 94 at thier first auto show appearnance

I work traffic control on the highways when they need to stop traffic to shoot the commmercials. I worked one shoot in '97, I saw the first quad cab in CO, maybe one of the first ones ever. They also had the new to be released Neon R/T and two Vipers, along with three semi's full of cars. I talked with the people from Chrysler and asked about buying one of the Vipers(they cracked the cowl on the roadster going over a cattle-guard at about 90) or the quad cab(a gorgeous 12 valve short bed Cummins sport in black with blacked out windows). I was told all cars used to shoot commercials are destroyed, either crash tested or just crushed. They can't sell the cars to the public after beating them as hard as they do. Most of the cars I saw also had the brake lights disconnected so they wouldn't show up on the film.

Oh that sucks... . wouldn't sell it even at a discount huh... Even if you promised to crash test it someday?

You know that was my arguement, I promise to give it back someday so you can crash test it . The thought of them crushing a Viper GTS just makes me want to :{
