In Texas the Dodge commercials usually feature country-rock music. My dealer even had a stack of free CDs titled "Grab Live by the Horns", featuring all the songs used in the commercials. Most recently they've used the hard rock riff that sounds like Marylin Manson's "Beautiful People" and the lyric "It's bigger in Texas. And better in a Dodge. "

For the last few weeks Chevy has been running a commercial for their new Colorado Crew Cab. 5 guys riding in the truck and one guy is singing along to Shania Twain's song "Feel Like a Woman", getting into it way too much. Everyone else in the truck is cringing and looks uncomfortable.

Funny thing that when that commercial is on all I can think of is that if it were a Ram Cummins the driver would have immediately changed the station and the passenger in the front would have back-handed the dude that was singing. End of problem.

Commercial does nothing to make me want a Chevy Colorado and makes me wonder what is says about their truck. It would be like Ford advertising their new 6. 0 diesel by showing the engine wearing a giant diaper.

That was a pretty interesting way to analyze those commercials Crunch.

I would have to say that I definately agree with you. Had we been in my CTD the dope that was singing along with Shania would have been walkin his sorry a$$ home.

The only new commercial I've seen for the new Cummins is the one where the truck quietly sneeks up on the construction workers and the commentator says something about 600 ft/lbs sneeking up on you.

Jeff

up here in N. E. Ohio, you get the same amount of info on the CTD as you do about NASCAR ---- ZERO!

no accounting for the lack of good taste here.

When I see that Colorado comercial, I think WTF are they doing. ???

You are not goig to see me in one NOW.

Of course I got a much better truck anyway.

Up here in Canada I have never seen a CTD commercial at all!

It seems that all Dodge wants to sell is that fuel guzzling Hemi.

Dodge engine=advertising Cummins engine = no $

P. S ... . Just heard that Dodge made Ford pull some mini-van commercial because of claims about the seats. I still see the commercials claiming the most powerful diesel on the market is the mighty 6. 0L Ford

OK, could someone explain to me the theory behind the Quizno commercials with the 2 singing hamster looking dermoid cysts?

It scares me, and frankly makes me LOOSE any desire for a sub sandwich A N Y W H E R E!

The ford minivan commerical mentioned above was the free star commercial, where the ford guy specifically says "caravan", even though the caravan has the features he's touting on teh ford... I dunno...

The situation hasn't come up yet, but I'm not sure I'd allow singing of any kind in my truck...

That ad leaves me scratching my head and wondering who their target audience is. Maybe it's better not to know. I also tend to be turned off by ads featuring clumsy, non-handy dads. I'm not clumsy and reasonably handy so I figure their products aren't for me.

Haven't seen that one, but even in Texas I've seen minimal references to the diesels. They show a quick shot of one and mention the 600, but I've never seen a commercial built around the diesel. I get the feeling that the manufacturers want to advertise them, but the EPA or some other government agency won't let them. I know that manufacturers and dealers don't have to publish fuel economy information on the window sticker and wonder if it has something to do with passenger vehicles vs. work vehicles. If that's true, our worst nightmare would be if diesel sales in general surpassed sales for gas passenger gas-powered cars.

I was kind of thinkin the reason DC doesn't advertise the Cummins is because they feel they don't really need to. I thought I read somewhere that 70% of all Dodge 3/4 and 1-ton trucks are sold with the Cummins already. So I guess the Cummins sales itself. They probably feel the add budget is better spent elswhere. But who knows ???

My figure on the Cummins percentage may be off, I'm just recalling off the top of my head.

I don't doubt that. I read last year that while Dodge sells about half the trucks each year that Chevy and Ford sell, Dodge has 40% of the market for diesel trucks. Chevy must sell the fewest diesels, because I see a lot of 2500HD and 3500HD Chevys out there and maybe one in 10 have the Duraquax.

But I also know who the target audience is for Dodge trucks. The Hemi commercials featured the normal dude with the Hemi and the two loser dudes who wanted one. Before that the Dodge ads featured three guys who saw what I think was a heavy duty drive by and they imagine themselves owning it--one guy pictures himself hauling heavy equipment with it. The next guy is shown painting the name of his electric company on the side. The third guy is standing on a boat ramp and guiding the Dodge, which is backing up and towing a boat. The cab is full of hot babes!

I can relate to both of those commercials, even though the boat guy only had half as many hot babes in his truck as I normally do. Even though I gave up on Ford I can relate to their commercials, and occasionally even miss being a Ford man (until I look out the window and see my Dodge). But those Chevy Colorado commercials leave me shaking my head. I ain't the guy singing that he's glad to be a women. I'm not the guy who curls up against the window to get away from him, and I'm definitly not the driver who let's him get away with singing. I guess I just ain't a Colorado guy.

The Colorado (truck?, if you can call it that)+ Shania Twain song go together. The truck is built for a woman.

Or with the guy singing along, it means the truck is confused as to what it is? Who knows. The commercials anymore, for pretty much anything, are a real turn off. Make me want to NOT buy what they are selling.
