i took all the decals off my tailgate, and was thinking of putting a differant decal on there. my idea is to take a "Cummins" decal custom cut to fill the entire tailgate and put it on there. or maybe a large "C" . what do you guys think, look good bad any suggestions?? will it be to big?? and then if i do decide to do this do you think i would have a problem of the paint rusting out quiker with the sticker on there??

I wouldn't worry about rust. I wouldn't like the sticker, but everyone has their own opinion. I would make your truck look good to you and don't worry what other people think.

It shouldn't cause rust at all. There are tons of vehicles with huge stickers all over them. Our local TV station live van is one giant sticker. It got overlays of a huge thunderstorm all covering the entire side.

Plus ambulances and fire trucks use large decals and stripes. If anything it would protect. If applied properly it would look fine.

What color were you thinking of using? I think the standard blue Cummins would get lost in your blue paint.

It looks like you have a white "C" in the drivers side window in the pictures. I think if you put a big white C in the tailgate the truck will look asymmetrical (unless that's what you want).

I just had some decals made for mine that will replace the tailgate decals. They are the same length just 1/2" taller and a different font. Instead of saying DODGE it will say CUMMINS.

I don't see any reason you should worry about the rust issue.

i was thinking white i'm not sure if cummins across the whole tail gate woud look good or not some buddies say it would look sweet. but i am sure the look would grow on me if i didi do that!!

so out of 241 views all i get is two opinions on how it would look on the tailgate come on i know you guys are very opinionated so lets hear some!!!

The people who think it is cool that you have aCummins will already be able to tell thats what it is. The peope who cant tell, probably dont care. I think it might look gaudy.

Your truck..... your "look"... .

I see some trucks that are just gawdy... ..... lifted 4' and monster tires and noise - parked at the grocery store... .

I think you should put whatever you will like on your truck and enjoy it!

The stickers won't cause the metal to rust.....

I drive fire trucks and ambulances... . never had a problem with the stickers.....

BB,

You know it is your truck, and if that is something you think would look good then go for it. The decals will have no effect of the trucks tendency to rust. The decal will actually help protect the paint, and if left on for a couple of years, you will see a difference in the paint under the decal. It should be richer in color then the rest, it was protected from the sun and didn't fad.

That said, I understand your need to seek advice. I have asked similar questions regarding my truck. It is being re-painted and I was bouncing a few ideals out to people. Your tailgate Ideal seems a little to Bold for me. I think many times less is more, with regard to decals and paint. You have taken the time to strip your truck of it's old decals and nameplates, this is great it open up the opportunity to be different. You could always try your ideal, the vinyl is not that expensive and if you don't like it, take it back off.

We are at similar places with regard to our trucks, I too have a 2nd gen, and what a new, fresh look. Like I said earlier, it is being re-painted. All the nameplates and decals have been removed. I bought '04 nameplates, "RAM 3500", "Heavy Duty", front Cummins badge, "4X4 OFF ROAD", "SLT", and "DODGE". I thought the new nameplates on the older truck would look fresh, and yet subtle, only the trained eye would pick up on it. I also have the body side molding removed and do not plan on re-installing it. I am looking for some sort of a decal or graphic to set it off, but will wait till everything is on and I see what it needs.

For you , I have been looking at RUGE exterior graphics, they are good quality graphics that come in many different styles. www.stlinconcepts.com Has them and many other custom pieces that you may find attractive for your truck. Have you considered new Tail lights and or Clear corner lights, they sure give a different look. I plan on mixing many things in to achieve a unique look, that is my own. I have Buckstop bumpers, and Frenched in 4 LED light on the front and back to separate my Buckstop from the rest, It turned out good, and did what I wanted. You may be able to do something similar with the factory bumper, that would sure set yours apart. Many times several small changes add up to more then one big change. The loud ones seem to shout at people, which many times turns them off. The subtle changes invite people to look closer, and try and see what else has been changed.

y-knot, ggod points made in you r post i thought it was a little loud also but at 22 loud doesn't bother me but it might be too loud maybe i will do somthing smaller and more subtle ... . who konws i'll just ponder the idea!! i have plenty of time to think about it.

BB,

I just noticed you are from Michigan, how far are you from Silver Lake? I have been going there since the 80's. I love the place in the summer, but can't imagine it in the winter. Also, your truck's tail gate is missing in your pics. I see the big "C" in the window but it doesn't have the "Cummins" cut in it, whats up with that? I think your best bet would be to have a theme, and go from there. You are also right about the age difference, being 22 makes a difference, most kids want attention so bold might be good.

KEEP IT CLEAN !

I think too much badging in annoying unless you can REALLY back it up...

I would rather be an unexpected killer

The only badge on my truck is the side the says 2500 CTD took the "sport", "4x4", & "dodge" off now it is just a loud bad a$s black truck

y-knot,

i'm in the detriot area it is about a 2-21/2 hour drive to silver lake my buddies are building a mini sandrail and i have helped a little bit with it. it has a cbr 600cc motor in it. i go up to silver lake a few times a year next time you go let me know and we can try and hook up!!
