I can't wait to rip that V10 out and put the cummins in it. It probably won't happen until next summer since I don't have a good place to work indoors. It will give me time to work out alot of the details.

She had been driving my truck for a while prior to buying this. That was with a HX40 and Mach 4's, she really got a kick out of it. However, it has been upgraded since then...

I'm doing the same. A '94 12 valve in a 2000 Ex. I already swapped in '06 suspension, the engine swap is almost done. Using a destroked.com kit. Can't wait to be driving my truck again.

MMcCallie, how hard was the suspension swap? Also, what kind of stuff came in the destroked.com kit?

The Excursions are getting more affordable (2000 or 2001 regularly sold on ebay for 8,000 to 11,000). A few cheaper than that even. Diesel excursions sold for around 14,000 to 19,000.

Looks like a nice excursion.

If you want some wrenching help on it I would be more than happy to drive down and help. I have never done it but I would love to help.

GOT-TORQUE, the swap took me a long time and cost a lot. If you do it, you'll want the axles, suspension, driveshafts, and steering off of the donor truck. We used a plasma to hack the wrecked '06, it was wild. If you get all of the parts, most of the bolts are already in your frame so it really doesn't take much creativity. Almost all of the holes have to be opened up so there is work involved. Those axles are heavy too, you'll want help.

I bought the adapter kit from destroked. It is an engine adapter plate and 1/4" thick flexplate that mates the Cummins crank to the 4R100 torque converter. His kit uses the Ford 6. 0 starter which not only spins better, but also requires far less shaving and grinding.

Like factory parts. Best price, quality, and communication by far. He can make almost anything you need. He's even working on plug and play harnesses for Cummins conversions.

Bought my quad engine mounts from autoworldmt.com, but Scott of destroked.com is still the only guy who can really answer my questions. His truck is awesome, at a glance you wouldn't know it was a conversion, looks factory even with compound turbos. Definitely the best in the business i've found to deal with.

We have 3 kids, and even that changed our car buying options. Yes, you can get a minivan and we did, but there isn't much room for "stuff". Can only imagine with 5. You need a school bus with a 5. 9 and I have one. Even a stubby school bus.

TJarecke, sounds good to me. I am sure I could use some help once I get started. It probably won't be until next spring.

MMcCallie, what is the reasoning for the suspension swap? Heavier axles and coil spring front suspension? Or was your Excursion two wheel drive to begin with?

I'm going to be using a 48RE with a Goerends Convertor and an ATS valve body with a standalone controller. I would like to mate the 48RE to the ford transfer case if I can adapt them. (I've got a dodge 3rd gen transfer case as well, but if I don't use it on this, I would like to put it on my 01 dodge.

The roads in Boston were tearing up my truck. With well over 100,000 miles, the suspension couldn't take it anymore so i had to do something. The new suspension completely solved the rough ride and the axle wrap from the rear axle. The truck also stays in its own lane now instead of wandering on its own. Everything is now much stronger and more capable. This is how they should have come from the factory, no doubt. Oh yeah, you wouldn't believe how tight this truck can turn now. Unreal!

After a few tanks of gas (big tanks at that), fuel mileage is about 10. 5 to 11 mpg for the short trips to and from town or school. One tank that was only interstate netted 14 mpg. Just another reason to get rid of the V10.

That's what my Powerstroke got in town. Couldn't get 14 on the highway unloaded though. 12. 6 towing from 12,000 lbs from Boston to St. Louis was its best. Hoping to nearly double fuel economy with the Cummins. 20 mpg highway is my goal, which may not be possible in the mountains or stop and go traffic.

I have a '99 Super Duty I just swapped in a set of '06 axles from a rear-ended Harley. Truck had less than 300 miles. Rides great. I have a '02 Lightning engine, and looking for a Cummins to swap in and put the L-engine into an project vehicle. I am looking for a donor truck, really hoping on finding a good '04 roll-overed Cummins.

My truck originally came with a 5. 4L. What are the big differences when swapping a Cummins into a gas engine vs. PSD Super Duty/Excursion?

There is an 03 motor transmission and transfercase on ebay in Alliance, NE It says it has the wiring harness and computer with it. The bid was less than $5K

BStandefer,

Going from a gas engine is easier than from a PSD if you go to a 2nd generation engine, unless your 5. 4 is newer with fly by wire. I like the '94-98. 5 P7100 12 valves, much simpler. They use mechanical throttle linkage and don't need a computer. Fewer parts, more reliable.

If you check out destroked.com he has a 24 valve in his truck. I've ridden in it. Great guy and superb products, he can answer all of your questions. He used a brand new crate engine, think it was a 2003 with all of the electronics. I would use the 4R100 transmission. Bigger and stronger than the Chrysler. Stick with the NVG 271/271 if you can, best you can have. Might not even have to modify driveshafts.

Glad to hear i'm not the only one who's swapped in the '06 suspension! I still have to tune mine a bit more though. See how it does with the Cummins and new bumper i've been building first. Caster is 5. 5 and 6.

I emailed the seller a few times, and I don't think he has the engine. Something really fishy about his responses when I asked him about sending me a few extra pictures. He has never sold anything before, and the items he has purchase are all real small items. I might avoid this auction unless you are in the area to go see it or pick it up.
