Hello all,

I've been trying to find a good deal on a 97 12-valve Reg. Cab SLT for a while now. I found one on the net and I want your opinion of the price the dealer is asking.

1997 2500 CTD/Auto 4x4

85,000 miles

All options (except for power seat, auto dimming rear view mirror)

Green/Silver (silver center band)

Clean body

Fairly new tires

Dealer asking price: $14,995

To me $14,995 seems a bit high, but maybe I'm wrong.

Thanks

Ryan

Being in NJ, possibly has rust in doors or rockers that is hidden. Maybe not. That truck right now is worth approx 12-13k imo. 13k would have to look almost brand new

Thats what I thought too and when I told him he gave me he couldn't go that low. He said for $12K or $13K, the truck would have to have almost 200K on clock. The problem is that he is used dealer, who buys his stock from new dealers, who take them in on trade. So, he probably paid somewhere around $11. 5K-$12. 5K himself and is looking to make atleast $1K. As much as I want a clean 97, I'm not willing to plunk down $15K for a 7 year old truck approaching 90K miles.

Thanks

Ryan

Make the offer of 12, and say that's all you can do. . Leave it at that. . He'll call you back. . They play that game all the time. . Just be patient after making the offer. . He'll call you and say yes, or make a counter offer. .

I just bought a truck AND trailer (see sig) for less than he is asking for just the truck. And it was in decent shape. needs some tuning and some cleanup, but otherwise ok.

Oh yeah, can't forget the 10 ft western snow plow... . anyone need one ??

RMC-

Hey My dad just bought his 1996 4x4 a couple months ago. It is very very clean. 200k miles on the clock for 9,000 OTD. It was a trade in to the local dealer we got it at auction, the dealer in Socalif (diesel are $$$) and original owner only got 5,000... .

I'm guessing on the 1997, the dealer gave 7-8k on the trade, your used dealer paid about 10k for it. He wants to make 30percent. Offer him 12k and go up to 13k if you like it.

I paid 9k for my 96 on ebay a year ago. 165k on the clock. Decent shape but i didnt pay any tax or anything... 4x4 stick federal emissions :)

That's too much money like everyone else has said. Especially being an auto truck. The 5spd 96-98 trucks seem to bring more money around here and that is still too much for one of those. Shop around, be patient, and you will find a better deal.

I think a Reg. cab in very nice shape with those miles should be 10-11k, reg. cab certainly is worth 2-3k less than Club Cab IMO. What does KBB and Kelley say?

I paid $9k for my pretty nice but not near new condition '96 with 351,000 miles.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I'll probably offer him 12. 5K or 13K and see what he says. As for Kelly, NADA, etc. , they all list the vehicle (high retail figures) around 14K-14. 5K. However, its been my experience that these appraisals aren't always accurate- usually a little on the high side. I spoke with the manager today and I'm gonna take a ride in a few days to look it over. If it's everything he says it is, I'll try and get for around 13. 5K max.

Thanks again everyone,

Ryan

To much $$$.

I paid 9K for a '96 auto/4x4/std. cab with 101K on it (AZ truck = no rust)... ... and I thought THAT was a too high.....

truck mileage

Sometimes a vehicle with low mileage isn't such a good deal as low miles could mean a lot of stop and go driving which shortens the life of a motor whether it's gas or diesel. Mine is a good example as I am working on 800,000. Had the head gasket replaced in Jan, original hone marks in cylinders,no ridge to speak of, did not need a valve job and original injectors, all highway miles. lesson ?, don't be afraid of hi miles if proper maintainence was performed. good luck.
