Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Any Tricks?

I finally got my transmission fixed and the T-Case checked out. I FINALLY :-laf got a real clutch in this truck. SB con OFE 13". I am pleased to finally get all my horsepower to the ground. Now here is the question, I am trying to get a ballpark figure of how many ponies I am producing. I have 215 injectors, stock DVs, advanced timing, 3K GSK, SuperB turbo, #10 BD fuel plate. If I romp on it I get 1100*Max preturbo EGTs, I get 32psi Boost MAX. I have the truck setup so I can tow and not have to worry about EGTs. It has enough power to chirp the tires in 4th gear with 285/75R16 tires. I think I need to adjust my AFC a little because fueling comes on a tad slow and i get a slight bit of de-fueling around 2900-3000 RPM. I am really starting to get this truck the way I want it. This has been a labor of love, and this site has been the biggest help. Thank You TDR Oo.

Yes the plate is in the stock position. I was wondering if the larger turbo would affect horsepower..... or would it affect torque... . or anything.

A larger turbo will affect low end torque somewhat, depending on how it spools.

with your #10 about . 035" foward, you should be good for about 380 hp or so.

. 020 foward is good for about 350-ish.

With the 3Kgsk's and timing, the super B turbo will probably be good for an increase in top end hp over the 35. I would guess 380 to be safe.

Well yeah, sorry dumb question. I really meant will my EGT's go through the roof. I don't have a problem with them right now, but will I if I switch.

I got curious about power. I moved the plate forward and the AFC a little more. :--) Holllllyyyy Crap. I forgot about the amount of power this engine can produce. I hit about 40-41 psi boost, I only was able to get the temps up to about 1350*F, and it took it a second to get that way. :-laf... . I don't want to push the new head gasket though, its only a stock replacement when I had engine rebuilt. I turned it back down and now I get about 35-36 psi boost. and 1200 EGTs max. I will probably set it just a fuzz lower than that. I will see when I tow the next time. PS... I like this clutch. :cool:

You are getting those M-55s to chirp in 4th gear!! On dry pavement?! I'd have to be extremely hard on the equipment to get any rubber in 3rd, even when I had the 4500. I don't think I could hammer on it hard enough to get tires to chirp going into 4th. I don't drive like gramma, I like to have a little fun but I can't see pulling this off with my rig. Maybe that BD turbo comes on way harder than my 40 does.

With my #10, dodgezilla and luk clutch, If I pretty much dump the clutch in 2nd, it will roast the tires all the way, then hit 3rd and it keeps roasting them (actually smoking) and then it will keep them spinning (no smoke) until about 2400rpm in 4th.

Even just a hard shift from 3-4 will chirp the tires pretty good. Im running 305-70-16's, with about 28psi in the rear.

Heck, even in 4wd, I can chirp them on the 2-3 shift. not the 3-4, though.

NHays,

A #10 foward will get hot with the stock hx35. You should be fine with the super b though. And 36psi is fine with the super b and stock head gasket. Its when you start running 36-40 psi with the hx 35 that head gaskets become a problem. The drive pressure/heat is what kills them, not the boost pressure. The drive pressure on your super b is likely much lower than the hx35. 36 sounds like a pretty efficient point, if your only seeing 1200*. Thats pretty good.

I run my dodgezilla at 40-42psi, and the truck still has the stock head gasket with almost 200K miles on it. no probs yet...

Thanks for the info guys. I was really impressed when I herd the tires start chirping a little i fourth, I was like no way... . but they do... . I must be hitting it just right on the temps. I have to say, this is the first time I have been able to actually use the capacity of the SuperB turbo. I have had so many other issues with the truck i have had the fuel plate all the way back just to keep from hurting things. Now that I have things fixed and running i can use the power. I am fairly happy with the turbo, it is a tad slow to spool if your not set to blow "alot" of smoke at first, but man, when she lights up you better hang on. it gave this engine enough air to burn clean at almost full plate, extremely little haze at full throttle. I could not keep the tires stuck to the ground. Going into third gear if I was going to slow and the boost hit, she would break loose. Oo.

However I think i am going to have to take the turbo off for a while and rebuild it. The engine in my truck is brand new, it has almost no blowby or air coming out the breather, and it has eaten a few quarts of oil in four months. I can smell a little Amsoil at the tail pipe and I have a nice thick layer of carbon, so I think the turbo is bypassing a little oil. Anyways, thats why i was wondering about the HX35, I just got done rebuilding that one and I was going to put it back on for a while. :{
