A 9Companion DTC9 was set in both the ECM and PCM.





What does this mean and what causes it?

I believe it is just telling you that there is a fault code. It goes along with another code.

P1693 is only a generic code alerting you there is a more specific fault code deeper in the ECM or PCM that requires a more sophisticated code reader to view and correct. Some AutoZone and similar automotive stores provide customers a free check of the system with a code reader to help find codes and suggest repairs.
