I know the choices are slim, but what tires other than the stock goodyears or generals have been tried?

I'd love to put on a set of goodyear wrangler mt/r's, but the closest size that may fit are 275/70-17c. They are 10. 9" wide, 32. 4" tall and have a load rating of 2600. The gs/a's are 9. 2" wide, 31. 8" tall and have a higher rating of 3085. My main concern is the width and if the rear duals would rub each other. I guess I could run a 1" spacer between them but I'd rather not.

Just wondering what others have done and what other tires are being run. Thanks.

Cooper Tires.

I have a second gen dually and a first gen dually. I run nothing but Load Range E (10 ply rating) Coopers on both. I have never had a problem with them and they tend to be a little cheaper than Mich's or Good's. On my '99 which is my daily driver, I am running Cooper Discoverer S/T 235/85/R16. I just put a new set on the other day and got 59,000 miles out of the set I took off. Before that I had the Cooper Discoverer SS/T 235/85/R16 and got 64,000 miles out of them (they were slick).

All of this to say that I have never been happier with a tire than with Coopers (I don't play golf or even like it, so Arnold Palmer does not mean anything to me). I think Cooper now has some 235/80/R17 that will fit the 3rd gen duallys now, but their website may not be up to date yet.

This is one thing that had me holding off on getting a 3rd gen... lack of tire choices. FWIW... I have run goodyears several times. I will only run them on a vehicle if they come on it new, because I never get much over half the mileage they are rated for. I tend to get more than the coopers are rated for and I like that.

JME (Just My Experience). :)

The Cooper Discovers are out for the '03 dually's. I put them on my tuck about 10,000 miles ago. Looks like they will last allot longer than the stock Goodyears.

Now that the Coopers are finally out I plan on replacing my Goodyears with the Coopers this fall when the weather turns nasty. We have run Cooper Discover on an Dodge 01 dually work truck here for plowing snow and they have performed well.

I Also run Cooper Discoverer S/T's on my dually and I love 'em. They get great traction, Handle extreme loads well, and are surprisingly quiet and smooth.

What are people paying for the 17" Coopers? I have run Coopers on all my trucks for years. So I stopped by and priced them out and they want $225 a piece for them. That is about the same price as a set of Michelin 19. 5s. That is my dilema. The difference is that to get the Michelins you also needs about $2500 in rims also :--)

I am considering the 19. 5 michelin on the rear only, with a 4. 10 rear the bigger tire will help out in the mpg department, the question is,does the larger tire on the rear upset the ABS brake system:ie. the front tires would be turning faster than the rears.

I just got a Cooper today (new spare) and paid $193. 18 for tire, mounted, balanced, and tax. This is in Kansas City.

Thanks for all the input, the Goodyears have 37,000 on them now and are getting thin. I'll definitely check out the Coopers. I saw a new '04 with a set of them on it last week.

Back when I had my 99 3500, I paid $135 each for Michellins. I sure hope this new 17" size gains some popularity with the Furds and Chebys so that the price will come down some on these in the future.
