I mean they use the old housing - I remember when we use to rebuild wheel cylindres on drum brakes - that you had to hone out the wear ridge etc..... Not knowing what fails - are there places in the housing that must be honed etc???????
When mine was replaced I got a whole new unit, my housing went with it.
I believe when a VP fails internally and the dealership fixes it under warranty they take the whole thing. If the VP's electronics fail I think they just replace the electronics.
5 Star dealers can't piece out a VP44. Only repair shops with a calibration test stand can marry up the mechanical parts and the electronics - including the shaft key used to set the timing.
There are several reasons for VP44 pumps to fail. The reasons are water in fuel, failed diaphram and seals, failed pump housing and advance piston and failed PSG (brain box). There are a few other failers that are not as common. When the pumps are rebuilt new parts are replaced or updated according to the needs of the pump. Then after the pump is rebuilt the pump has to be calibrated on a special test stand, by the test stand. Techs. do not have to make each adjustment. The computer does that now. And there fore human error is very low. Thanks www.industrialinjection.com
