I am going to install a temperature gauge on my Mag-Hytec differential cover. What do any of you recommend for a gauge/sender? What about setup? Thanks in advance.

Hey, this post is perfect timing. I to am about to install a differential temp gauge. But then I was wondering, how would I know if anything was wrong? I mean what's a good temp reading and what's a bad temp reading? Any feedback guys?

I just installed an SPA temp. sender in my Mag-Hytec differential cover. I'm still in the process of wiring it up though.

I'm running an SPA guage in my diff via the Mag-Hytec cover. I see typical temps of up to about 179 deg. It rarely goes that high -- I only saw that last weekend when towing (GCWR of about 19k lbs) with my camper loaded.

Normally it runs in the 150-170 range. That's with eight quarts of Redline 80W-140 gear oil in there.

The sender is a typical 1/8" NPT.

Towing to a race last month from Phoenix to Tucson, AZ, at extended highway speeds at approx. 17,000 GCWR, my Dana 80 with 8 quarts of Mobil 1 75W-90 reached as high as 230F. Seems a little warm to me, but that's what it was. I'm glad a synthetic is in there.

Running empty, it runs approx. 180-195F.

Wow, what an eye opener. I never dreamed that the diff temps would get that high. Thanks to all for the info.
