Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) What gauges after the required 3?

Now that I have the three required 24v gauges, I'm figuring on what to monitor next. Oil, transmission (manual) and differential temps seem logical. What else would be useful?



Yeah, I know A/C pressures, airspeed, and compass would be nice...
 
Wade. . most guys who monitor the transmission [manual types] say that the transmission and diff. temps mirror each other. . looks redundant to me to monitor both locations. . JMHO

Is your oil gauge a pressure or temp. . I run a oil temp gauge & fuel press, egt & boost all Spa's dual gauges, also have Mag-Hytec front and rear covers so I don't monitor those temps as the extra capacity gives me comfort that I'll be way low there.

Redundant?

willyslover is probably correct. I monitor both. The reason I monitor the transmission temp is cuz I don't run the factory lube. Plus it was fun to have another project to do. ;) The temps do mirror each other. The differential gets hotter, faster than the transmission. Likewise, cooling off. On my recent trip towing my 5ver to Tennessee, the transmission ran a high temp near 220-225. The differential peaked at around 215-220. I was glad to know this info, but you may not care to much.

One gauge that I added which is also very cheap is a vacuum gauge. This will alert you if you develop a faulty check valve as well as letting you know if you have accidentally knocked off one of the many connections when working under the hood. Many accesories use the vacuum line as well such as the exhaust brake, 2LO kit, HVAC controls, etc.
