Could someone please explain to me about the good points of
an intercooler system. Does it really do that much good
and why is it not pre-turbo? It would seem to have a quicker
responce if the turbo were to go directly to the intake.
I'm just curious here and remember when there were no
such things. Thanks guys, I may be showing my ignorance here,
so please teach me. #ad

The turbo compresses the air. This heats it, and the intercooler (really an aftercooler--intercoolers goes between two turbos) cools the air to give more density and lower egt.

Thanks Joseph,
The air gets warmed by the turbo then. So the aftercooler
cools it back down. And cooler air is more condensed.
Makes sense to me. Wonder if moisture is condensed as well
when the warmer air cools?
Well too much for me to understand now, I'll keep on downloading
all this good training.
Thanks Joseph

We can crank up the power a LOT more too! More fuel+more boost=higher heat of compression=more need for an after cooler. NONE of the OTR trucks would run like they do these days if it weren't for after coolers. Truckers used to turn up the fuel trying to keep up with the aftercooled trucks and melt their engines big time.
