Truck/Site FAQ down???

how do i change my log in name?

It doesn't appear to be shown on any index - I mean if you go to get last day's posts - Not THere! How can you get an answer to something that mosy folks simply miss? The Other Category should not be Discriminated against - I think we Need Legislation!!!!!!! Seriously - we're getting shortchanged on that category. If there's something you don't like - don't look at it - no different than any of the other categories. IMO.

AND I know this isn't the place foe this post - But If I Put in the OTHER POST- NOBODY will see it... ...

Thats why I didn't use the other category, when I posted Before You Buy A Dell. I posted it in what I call my home forum the one for twelve valves/2nd Gen. I did that so people would see it.

The situation you describe does present quite a problem.

Good Luck

Don

The other forum posts were taken out of the New Posts & Last Days Posts lists at users request. Posts there do get read a lot. There's a post there by Doc Tinker right now that was posted on December 5th and it's been viewed over 3500 times in the last 6 days. There's a post in there about HVAC's memorial sticker that was posted 53 hours ago and has been viewed close to 1100 times. That and there have been 247 posts in the other forum in the last 44 hours. As you can see there is quite a bit of activity in the other forum.

The thought behind not including the other posts in the new posts list was that since this is a truck site that users primarily come here for the truck information. Many users don't want to see the other posts in those lists. If you want to view the other forum you just have to click on it to look at em. It's one extra click if you read posts view the view new posts feature. BTW, that change was made over a year ago and you are the 1st person to complain about it since that time (and I think there were 2 or 3 that complained about it at the time - and ton's that liked the change). Here's the post when the change was made - https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55360 . We did do a poll on the change at the time, btw. Over 60% of the respondents on the poll wanted the other forum removed from those lists.

Excluding the unfortunate Post about HVAC's

Steve it seems as though you're making my argument - if "There's a post there by Doc Tinker right now that was posted on December 5th and it's been viewed over 3500 times in the last 6 days" then there is a LOT of interest. But folks are having to single out this category. Maybe that's how most folks look at teh site - they just checl a couple of areas. I remember when the change was made, and as I hadn't viewed the other much, it didn't appear to be a bad idea however IMO, if you want some advice from this family of folks who have a great deal of different opinions advice etc, about a variety of subjects, you're missing many of them. Was this field dominating the board? But that's life.....

You said that nobody would read your post if it was in the other forum. My point was that lots of people read the other forum and your post would get read there. I don't care one way or the other as I don't use that feature, I browse through each forum individually. But with the change being made over a year ago and it being brought up once it doesn't seem like much of an issue. When the change was made we had at least 30-40 pro comments compared to negative ones. I'll talk to Robin and see if she's interested in putting up another poll to see how people feel about it. My guess is that it'll come down about the same as last time.

2 "other" forums?

I don't want to make the "other" forum too complicated, But what do members think about having 2 "other" features: One for automotive, truck, engine discussions NOT diesel related and another for politics, jokes, sports etc. The former could be viewed by non- members if so deemed. Not trying to make more work for Steve- Just an idea. -frank.

I enjoy the OTHER posting section as much or more than the other areas, It gives me a chance to laugh and enjoy the personality's of other members

No Steve - I don't think we need a poll.

I know it works fine - I was just PO'd about a PC issue and had hoped that one of these fine folks could help - didn't mean to get folks shorts in a knot... ... .

I always enjoyed the "Other" Threads, most of them anyway, but I found I just didn't look at them once they stopped showing up in the "get new posts".

I didn't say anything at the time... I didn't want to be a spoilsport, but now

personally, I vote for the Other Threads to be included in the "get new posts".
