Yesterday I drove down to Kerrville, Tx. to pick up a 34' Dreamer 5th wheel. I left the truck at idle for about 15 min. while inside taking care of the paper work. When I got back in the truck, the engine icon was on. After hooking up, I pulled out and headed down the road. The truck had less than 50% of the power that it normally has. As I approached the hill going north out of town, I was at WOT and the hill pulled me down to 30 mph. I should have easily topped the hill at 60. Then all of sudden, something broke loose and the truck took off like a bat out of a burning stump. It did that same thing once more and then never did it again. This morning, the icon disappeared. One more thing, I pulled into a road side park and changed the fuel filter. The one I pulled out looked fine. Anyone have any ideas. PS: How do I pull up the computer code in the odometer window????

Barry,

Sounds like it's going into the "limp home" mode. Probably a sensor going bad. Are you seeing any bouncing of the tach, etc. , when this happens?

To get your codes, turn the ignition switch on (not to start), then off, then on, then off then on and watch the odometer window.

As for displaying the codes in the odometer window:

Do this 3 times: turn the key to full crank position and release - if a stick, do NOT push the clutch, if an auto, not sure. The idea is you do NOT want the starter to engage. If you don't push the clutch pedal in, the starter doesn't engage.

This will cause the code(s) to cycle in the odometer window.

I just went out to the truck and cycled the ingnition 3 times. Code P 1693 popped up in the window. Anyone know what it means??

Barry, the map sensor connections not making good contact can cause this.

Try some dielectric grease on them.

I had the same problem and I used the dieelectric grease and the codes disappeared and the power returned. All done with no dealer contact... what a good thing!

same here

Barry,

I got the same symptom, MAJOR loss of power, engine light and code 1693. I used the dielectric grease on electrical connections and power returned immediately, light went out within 20 minutes of driving.

Whe you pull the MAP plug, you will see 3 posts, put the grease on those. Do this to the both the EZ MAP plug as well as the OEM plug. Might as well hit the data plug also. I never had a loss of power, but it cured the MIL light/code condition for me as well.

Had the same exact thing happen to my truck. Tried dielectric grease but didn't cure the problem. Dealer replaced the MAP sensor and fixed it. Covered under 100k mile engine warranty.

Map Sensor

Had the same exact thing happen to my truck. Long idle period in a traffic jam the day I took delivery of my the truck. Dealer replaced the MAP sensor and fixed it

I have thought about the EZ. I have another one in stock so I think I will swap out for a new one on this trip and see if that solves the problem. When I was selling the Plug n Power I had quite a lot of failures due to heat. If this EZ is faulty, it will be my first one to go bad and I have sold a bunch of them.
