2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission What Happens When Your Steering Wheel Wears Out??

My steering wheel finally wore through the leather.

Without going to Dodge and paying 600. 00... .

Is there a fix anyone knows of? Can they re-wrap the thing?

Is that a regualr wheel under the leather (It appears to be)?



Anyone wrap wheels?

I've had one of these for about a year and have been happy with it. And at a fraction of the cost to replace that wheel, too .

I think Genos Garage has a good wheel wrap that is custom made you your wheel and is threaded down tight so it isn't annoying like those cheap slip over deals.

I wrapped mine too!



I went one step further.

I put a cheaper thin foam/fake leather wheel cover on first then covered that with the good leather one.

Makes for a nice thick wheel like the later model units.

I did the same on my 1997 as SFB. Although, I used 2 bicycle inner tubes. Just split them, cut out the valve stem, pulled them over the wheel and laced on the leather. I like the thicker wheel.

You can get the same cover (or one just like it) at Pep Boys for about $15. 00. I did my 96 with one and it looks almost factory installed if done right. This is not the one that looks like a kids craft project, it really looks nice.

They advertise that they will also add foam to make your wheel thicker for those that like a fatter steering wheel.

Might think about sending them a auto salvage yard wheel and doing the swap after it's fixed.

Actually - that "Junk yard" swap is not a bad idea - then the TDR member that has it, can forward it on to the next person that needs there wheel done.

I called dodge and the dealer said $158. 00 dollars. The part numbers is 5FL421X9AD. this may help
