Looking for advice here on best driveline friction reduction methods... i. e. Syn what brand, type, when? Anything else that comes to mind to improve driveline efficiency would be greatly appreciated.

Running the driveline hot, and with thin slippery fluid will bo optimum for efficiency.



However, your title says the opposite. :) (instead of improve, probably should have said reduce?)



I feel that using the thinnest fluid that is safe, and running it at it's upper temperature limit will be best for "slipperyness". Especially at teh high speeds the driveline can see,

Your right I didn't state that correctly, clearly I wish to reduce driveline friction to improve efficency... Obviously switching to SYN if not already a factory fill for trans and differential is logical start. Anyone know what is the factory fill for the 68RFE and the 2007 Differential?

2007 Owners manual states; transmission ATF+4 (manual and auto),transfer case ATF+4, front and rear axle GL-5 SAE 75W-90 synthetic.

There is two schedule "A" in the manual. One indicates the axle fluid should be changed every 15,000 miles for the 6. 7L turbo. The other schedule "A" indicates axle fluid never has to be changed.
 
Is it better to let the drivetrain break-in before using synthetic? If anyone can provide a good break-in guideline for both engine and trans I would appreciate it. I understand that there is synthetic diesel motor oil but I have always thought it wasn't a good idea to run it until the engine is broken in. Thanks for any tips/advice.
 
The drivetrain already uses synthetic fluid throughout. I waited about 2300 miles before I changed out the factory fluid. RP, Amsoil, Redline, whatever brand you choose will most likely be better quality than the stock fluid. As for the engine, I would stick with dino oil until around 10K miles. That's what I would do anyway.
