i keep getting the 0216 code even after I clear them all my truck has problem starting sometimes after long drives it cranks for 3 seconds before it starts but if I shut it right back off and restart it is fine if it sits for a while it is fine or short distance drives it is fine I am going nuts also fuel pressure is 20 at idle 15 cruising and 8 wot

Welcome to the club! My pressures were never below 10 psi, but the VP 44 died anyway. If you have a 0216 code that won't go away, your pump is on its way out. My dealer replaced mine under warranty without any grief, on the first visit.

There are some folks out there that believe too much pressure to the VP44 can cause a failure, also. One number I've heard for the longest, happiest VP44 life is 14 psi to the inlet. It is said anything more than that, and the life begins to shorten. So, now perhaps we should be concerned with both too little, and too much pressure to the inlet. Kinda makes your head hurt, don't it :)

Let us know what you find.

I'll bet yours didn't have a pierced pump wire, either! Check the original poster's signature! ;)

0216 = Fuel Injection Pump Timing Failure

My understanding is one of the last symptoms before total failure is hard starting when hot.

I replaced mine before it got that bad. I could have the code cleared and it'd be back within 5 miles without any driveability issues. Lots of posts in the archives on the 0216, and I don't recall anyone surviving it without a new pump.

RustyJC,

I am well aware of the extensive BOMBs in the original post. I'm still amazed that mine was replaced on the first visit to the dealer is all. No need to get too excited. I'm pretty certain he is aware he PROBABLY won't get warranty service, but it HAS happened before.
