Where to find 5" diesel tach?

I have a 92 truck that was purchased for quick resale. I fixed the broken flexplate and the truck works great. The body is pretty sad with all of the dents. I am wondering if I would be better off parting the truck out. I was wondering what the 170,000 mile engine is worth. Thanks.

Only you can answer that. It is relative to where you are regionally as to prices and whether there are people in your area that want parts. Also, if you paid too much, you can never come out either way. But generally speaking, you can part out a truck for 3 to 5 thousand. The easy stuff goes first and you have a lot of hulls sitting around for a good while. The fact that the engines last a really long time means that there aren't too many folks looking for an engine. Also there are lots of other applications for the Cummins and they have been building them long enough now that they simply are not scarce. About 10 years ago, I sold a stock 40k mile engine for 4500 dollars. I doubt one would bring half that now.

If it is fwd, then you have more value with the front axle as opposed to twd. Is the interior good enough to be desirable or is it doged out?

Probably you need to drive it, or sell it whole.

Engine Value ?

In my part of the country with dents and miles it is worth more in parts. The engine running well complete is $3000 and at the junk yard that is without the pump. RC

How much would you want for the whole truck? If it is a club cab, I may be interested.

Generally, engines with a VE go for $2000-3000, depending on miles and overal looks. An engine kept clean (hosed off periodically, not detailing) with no leaks will bring more than the leaky one in my 92.

If you have a place to keep it, you'd come out better in the long run, though it may take some time to get it all gone.

The truck is a regular cab with 8 ft box. I am thinking with the 170,000 miles on the engine and 3000 miles on a new Mopar crate transmission, rebuilt axles, new driveshafts, American Racing 16"x10" chrome aluminum wheels and Goodyear MTRs I would have to get $4000 out of it.
