Hey Guys,

I was just wandering when the best time of year to buy a new Dodge Ram 2500. How much do you get off when you order it directly from the factory? Or would it be better for me to wait like at the end of the year when all the dealers want to get rid of the 07's to make room for the 08's? Just wanted people's opinions on this subject and what the pros and cons are. Any replies would be very helpful,

Thanks,

Greg

This is just my opinion. Diesel trucks are always in high demand. What I was told from my salesman at the time of purchase was to special order a truck they do not need to pay to store it or market it so that is where the best deal will be found. I am not sure where you are located. if you are on the east coast give Chris Crocker at Keene Dodge a call he gave me the best deal I was able to find and was great to work with. it was my first new purchase. I never set foot in the dealership and the man delivered it to my door himself. They are over 60 miles from here. That in itself should tell you something. (410) 557-8002

One thing you may want to consider is the model year depreciation. Check New Car Prices | Used Car Values - Official Kelley Blue Book Site or something similar and see how much a truck depreciates just from a change in model year (same mileage, condition, etc. ) Plug in a 2007 model year and then 2006.

The same depreciation would apply if you bought a 2007 (with one year depreciation) as compared to a 2008 with no model year depreciation. This will be true, even if they both drove off the dealer's lot the same day.

If you plan on keeping the truck 10 years, it won't really matter much. If you lease the truck, the only thing is how much your payments are... unless you put a premium on having the latest and greatest.

I just quoted an 07' vs. an 08' Mega Cab laramie yesterday and the 08' was $6 more expensive. If your looking at overall cost of ownership the 08' would definitely be the way to go. They haven't had much if any price increase on the invoice and the rebates on 07's are $3,500 and are already $2,000 on 08's. I would love to give you TDR pricing on both if you would email me the specs of what you want.

There are advertisements in the Dallas Morning News for $11000. 00 offf MSRP on 07 Dodge 2500 and 3500 with what is called a Lone Star package. 5. 7 Cummins and 48RE and some special options. Sure wish I could get a 2008 for about $8000. 00 off... . :) Probably will be able to around December or early January but need one now.....

You meant 5. 9, right? :D Big-fat-fingered it, didn't you. :-laf

Duh... . :) Yup, obviously a mispreint... . BY the way, I saw a window sticker last week that had a 3. 42 rear end. Must have been a single wheel 3500.

Hey Superdave,

I'm up here in Spokane, but a $1,ooo back of invoice puts you at around $7,800 below retail, and by the time your order came in it might be over $8,000. If you have a business or a Farm Bureau membeship your right there. Email me your specs and I'll give you a quote.

I got 8,500 off the list price on my 3500 srw and it was no special time of year. Just told them I wouldn't buy untill they got me a price i liked and i already knew the price 8500 off list. they only thing is they won't give you the good finacing with it.

there are newspaper ads in Dallas Tx for over $11000. 00 off MSRP on 2007. 5 with 5. 9 or 6. 7... ... I want a 2008... . There is the problem... Have found no dealers with published discounts or knowledge of any for the 2008

I think it's always best to special order a truck and get it equipped exactly the way you want it and not the way the dealer wants it. You also get to pick the color you want. Of all the trucks I have ordered I don't feel I paid anymore then if I had bought them off the lot. I don't know where you are located, but your best pricing is going to be Dave Smith in Kellogg, ID.

Also, Bill Miller at Lou Fusz Dodge will give you 3% under invoice + rebates no questions asked. He is awesome to deal with, flew in at 8 was on the road by 1030. Great guys. Scotty

Took delivery of my new 2008 Laramie 3500 dually week before Christmas. MSRP was little over $51000. 00... ... ... Bought for $38600. 00... ... Only had to wait for 2 1/2 weeks for the truck to be built and arrive. Love it so far. BUT only have about 500 miles on it. After I get 500 am going to hook upt o my big fifth wheel and give her a try. The dealer I am using here in Sulphur Springs, TX is about the hardest working and eager for business dealer I have ever dealt with in over 50 years of truck and car buying. They are great. If anyone is interested in the name, e-mail me and I will give it to you.

Ya, got a 07. 5 3500 quad cab srw 6-spd man. 4x4 short bed from Lou Fusz in December. MSRP was 45,555 and I got it for 33,999 no questions asked. So far so good. Couldn't be happier. They even gave me a full tank of fuel for the ride home. :)

When you bargain for your purchase price, keep this in mind. Purchased a 6. 7 Mega-cab, 4x4, dually, 2007 model. List $52025. 00, sold for $43240. I have not had good luck with mine, talked with few dealers GMC, Ford, etc. , and even the dealer I purchased from, and best trade in price was $31000 at 4000 miles.

Got a 08 megacab DRW last week of 07 (tax write-off). Listed for 54300, got 10,500 off that + treated me good on F350 PS DRW trade-in

Forget about discounts from MSRP. Work from the dealer invoice pricing. You should be able to buy at or below invoice and keep any rebates or incentives. Avoid car dealer games and dealer add-ons. Order exactly what you want. Now is a good time to order as the model year will close out soon.

Klenger... . I believe I disagree with you. The MSRP (suggested) is the same all over the country. The invoice can be and is different in different geographical areas. Let us not forget that the "proof in the pudding" is the net amount we pay. Having said that, if you work off the MSRP, then you have a base to figure from. You can more easily understand the discounting by both Dodge and the dealer. We all are not so dumb as to really believe that a dealer will actually sell a vehicle "below invoice". They have to stay in business. Who cares what the invoice is if we are happy with the net price we paid. The "invoice" as well as the MSRP are only starting points. I just believe the MSRP gives us all a more level playing field to start bargaining from. :)
