As stated earlier if you want to order a truck you better do it soon cause the '08 model year is closing soon. The new body style for '09 looks very nice though. I've heard from several different people that Kellog, ID is the way to go. I bought mine from a dealer in Salt Lake City, UT. It was at the end of the year and I bought a '07. 5 for 11,000 off MSRP. I would say at the end of each month or at the end of the year is the best time to buy cause the dealers are trying to make their numbers or set records.

We all are not so dumb as to really believe that a dealer will actually sell a vehicle "below invoice".

The dealer gets to keep ~2-5% of invoice. Called a "hold back". I see alot of ebay sellers cutting into the "holdback" profit margin.

I see invoice, plus 30% of holdback...

I also hear that Dave Smith Dodge in Kellog Idaho - is the way to go.....

They ain't the Worlds biggest Dodge dealer for nuttin' I guess!

..... (or so they say on their business card and website )... ... ... ... . davesmith.com

Worlds largest - 5th year in a row .

Also largest GM dealer in the North West.

Talked to a guy a couple days ago that had bought from them last year... ... . he was happy.

You need to always check factory MSRP against dealer MSRP. Dealers are all usually guilty of adding pin striping, tow hooks, bed liners, cloth protection packages, floor mats, and other items that cost them little but add thousands to the MSRP. I'd be willing to bet the average truck has at least $2-3K worth of dealer installed add ons.

The dealer will then reduce the MSRP of these add on items and make you think your getting a bargain. Dealers will not let you know about the true MSRP unless you know to ask.

I went through DSM and I live 20 minutes from the Mexican border.

Current incentives are $4500 on an '08. Having said that,I'm thankful I was able to order an '07 before the deadline.

I would assume that most guys can tell the difference between factory and add on items on an invoice or MSRP. I NEVER purchase add ons from a dealer. There is a local guy that does great bwork for less dinero and has done all 4 of my Dodge CTD trucks.

Where did you hear this? The Dodge folks have put out pics of the 2009 but the article stated that the 1500 1/2 ton is the only one with reworked sheet metal. The 2500 and 3500 will not be changed for some time, probably until Dodge sees what the reception will be on the new 1500 sheet metal rework. The main difference I see is the grill area has more of an "overhang" if you want to call it that. I think we are safe with our body style on the CTD for a while at least. Also read where Dodge is trying to fit in a small diesel in the 1500 in later 2009 models. Neat.

Seems to me the savings from the largest dealer or from the dealer in Oregon would be wiped out by the air fare to get there to pick up the truck. Seems to me the middle of the country would be a great place for a "national" type high volume dealer. What do you guys think?

I think I saw somewhere that Carson Dodge may still have some 06's (5. 9!) and maybe some early 07's. Might be worth a call to find out. I imagine that, while demand is high, it's not nearly as high as when diesel was cheaper than gas. You might be able to get a good deal on one that's been sitting for a while. Have 'em go through it, and warranty starts when you buy it. No DPF etc. to worry about, though it seems the late 07's and 08's are doing well.

Check my signature out. I already have a new 2008 as well as a 5. 9 2005. Found the best deal in the country right here in my home town. :)

Actually,I purchased an SLT 2500 4wd with a list price of $40,132 for $30,370 through DSM. I wasn't enrolled in the Farm Bureau long enough when my special ordered truck arrived in Kellogg: 29 days total! Even surprised them. Rebates were only $2,000 then,so DSM gave me a heckava discount relative to the low MSRP. The buying experience was stress free and truck flew through the registration process to the dismay of our DMV who would have loved to kill the deal. Down here, all I asked for was $500 over invoice but the SD dealers told me to suck eggs. A salesgal at Jack Powell in Escondido actually visited DSM once and was blown away. She suggested I buy from them. If you can buy at a fair price locally do it. It wasn't an option when I tried here. :)

I think it's always best to special order a truck and get it equipped exactly the way you want it and not the way the dealer wants it. You also get to pick the color you want. Of all the trucks I have ordered I don't feel I paid anymore then if I had bought them off the lot. I don't know where you are located, but your best pricing is going to be Dave Smith in Kellogg, ID.

I custom ordered mine from Bill Luke Dodge in Phoenix in May of 2006. It stickered at something like 47,800 and I paid 38,200. Both of the dealers I talked to (the other was Dave Smith Motors) said they would give me MORE off, maybe $1000, if I bought off the lot. The point is, you can get 10 grand off with out trying hard if you try the right dealers, like the ones who hang out here. Give these guys a try and you'll get a good deal. Also, like someone said, join the Farm Bureau. I think you need to belong for 30 days and then you ask for a discount certificate, which they mail to you and take to the dealer when they write the truck up, and it's worth $500.

I got the same treatment in a way. I bought 2 vehicles from John Hine Pontiac/Dodge/Mazda, my 2003 1500 quad and a 2003 Mazda Protege. I sent them TWO e-mails with the same specs I sent to the other dealers I was in contact with and they never even answered back so I went to Arizona. I would have bought from DSM instead of Bill Luke, but the extra money I would have saved was offset by the cost of the trip (which would have been a fun road trip anyway) but I couldn't justify the long weekend required to go pick it up and drive home at the time.

FYI; truck just turned 40K; NO problems so far.
