Cerebral Fun...

As the title says... can anybody recommend a good bolt-in gun safe under the seat where I could store my gun while I go into communist:) places that don't allow them? TIA

Truck vault

Check out Truckvault in WA. They have all kinds of storage options for all types of Pick ups and SUV's.

I know they make locking gun storage areas for different vehicles. They Do not make one under the rear seat however :(

They have something you might be able to use for a handgun.

Good luck.

Thanks Kevin. I sent for one of their catalogs... their website is terribly slow and doesn't give very good information. I imagine the catalog will explain their products a little better.

Does any one on the site have one of those bed vaults for their truck..... and what do you think of it if you do??? I was planning on building my own but this might be much better... .

I think I saw an under seat lockable storage drawer in the Geno's catalog?? I believe it said it wouldnt work on the drivers side if it was a power seat.

Add some foam padding, and youre set to go.

BTW, here in the Peoples republic of New Jersey, something like this would only arouse any LEO's suspicion.

I'm not saying you'll get searched for no reason, but if you fit the profile, and if an LEO saw the safe, they'd most likley have you waiting on a Judges signature on the side of the road.

Just my . 02

My 'unit' is out of sight, protected, and easily accessible. Out of reach and/or locked up does not work for me.

I'm a law abiding guy, and when I travel into the pits (as rarely as possible) I feel the risk of breaking the law (because my CWP doesn't work in their jurisdiction) is less than the risk of dealing with a local scumbag.

But keep in mind, I'm from Idaho.

Papa Joe....

I too subscribe to the old saying. . " I'd rather be tried by twelve than carried by six" theory. I'm grateful neither happened.

But were now gettng off topic. Seems like the man just wants to transport this.

Use common sense

I'm not telling Y'all to go around toting a firearm without a permit, heaven forbid there were a few more armed good guys around  . But, if you do, just use common sense. Don't drink and drive. Don't wedge the weapon in between the drivers and center seat. Don't just thro it under the drivers seat. Forget you are armed if you get into a road rage incident. Don't put a 'Protected by Smith and Wesson' bumper sticker on your rig. Guess you get the idea.

Remember, a search warrant needs probable cause to issue. A empty holster, loose ammunition, etc. , in plain view may be just that. A little common sense goes a long way.

I'm not real happy that the truck doesn't even have a locking glove box anymore, less than a locking center console. Guess those locks are mighty costly to DC  . I use a keycode type safe for my off-duty weapon, made by Mossberg. Works great, has an illuminated key pad, dual battery back. Not sure if this would be good in a vehicle though, as the lid springs upward and would be hard to access the weapon in any hidden location.

Gun Vault

I have a Gun Vault. Got it from Cabela's. It works great, you use four finger pads to enter a code and the door springs open fast. If someone trys to figure out the code they have only five chance before it shuts down for a time period (kepts the kids out). It also has a key to open it. It can be bolted down to the floor.

not trying to be a smart ***

If you want to carry a pistol in the truck get the concealed weapons permit... its not that difficult. If you want to LOCK you pistol up when you go into a place that does not allow concealed carry then get a gun vault with the hand combo set the combo to somthing that is real easy for you to "FEEL" remember.

As for me I carry 2 guns one in my seat with the grip up and ready ... . and the other is in the door handle... . BOTH are loaded and ready. I carry every where except the bank. I don't have school aged kids yet but I am sure when they are old enough I will not carry on school grounds... . every where else I carry!

Papa Joe,

I only want a safe for when I have to go in somewhere that does not allow concealed carry.

Cary, exactly what I was looking for, thanks. That looks similar to what Kevin recommended also.

Thanks guys.

Eric-what can I say... there's plenty of room in Texas for you!

CGoyette, getting a CWP in WI is difficult. Actually it's impossible. You are not allowed to cary a concealed weapon unless you are a LE Officer in the execution of your duties. That means that Cops can't even carry if they're off duty. It's a complete load of crap here. Also, you can't still be living in Japan if you are carrying weapons like that. You must be back home.

As far as which vault to pick, I have a Gun Vault at home. It's the same on that was described earlier. I like it alot. Guns are loaded. Locked away, but ready in a moments notice. It's a really neat application of technology. I bought it because this state passed a law that makes the gun owner liable for damages if that person's weapon is used in the commission of a felony. Basically, if you don't have it locked up, you're found just as guilty as the offender. If not, then more so. Again, it's a complete load of crap.

The site for gun vault is www.gunvault.com They're sold through a number of places.

Thanks but I hate the hot weather. I'm giving Maine, Pennsylvania, and the Arizona (northern) some consideration. :D

I like 4 seasons, but not too much 100+ temps!:D

60-70 and dry year round would be ideal, but I dont think it exists. :(

I've lived in NJ all my life, and I can say without reservation... . it sucks!!

Eric "waiting for his pistol purchase permit since freakin JUNE!!"

Safe holds up to two medium size handguns. Positioned correctly, I have had a Beretta 92FS and a Ruger 357 Magnum in safe together.
