Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Need Exhaust Manifold

Hey all. I am new to this site and to owning a dodge cummins. I have been reading about these trucks having bad lift pumps and I think mine is going bad as well. I lose power going downhill and then start back up the next hill sometimes. I have seen a few posts talking about a RASP pump solving fuel problems but I don't know what they are. Also does my truck have one or two lift pumps before the vp44? Do I have an in tank pump? Thanks for any info and I look forward to learning more each time I visit this site.

Welcome to TDR!

You have 1 lift pump before the VP. Stock lp mount is on the engine just before the fuel filter. You do not have an intank lp unless you have had the TSB and the dealer put one in as a lp replacement.

The RASP is a mechanical pump that mounts at the front of the oil pan and there is a belt system from a adapter on the crankshaft dynamic balancer to the RASP. It also has a fail safe pressure switch so if the RASP belt breaks the OEM lp takes over. The thing I like about mine is the higher the rpm the higher the fp, ie tracks with engine speed and can do the volume needed.

The RASP is the absolute best modification for curing lift pump problems IMHO. Not only that, but these pumps will supply a rock solid 15 psi (or whatever pressure you want considering they are tuneable) even with a heavily BOMBed truck. As has been said, the failsafe that allows the stock lift pump to take over or help out if there would ever be a problem with a RASP (I doubt there would be) is a great feature.

These pumps are pricey, but they're worth every penny.

What he said!! If you get over the price shock, it's the best system out there, I finally got off my wallet and got one to go with the Don's Injectors, can't wait to get em installed!!! :D

PS: RASP stands for "Rotary Axis Supply Pump"

As we speak (write) my lp is DOA (have to check it out this weekend), but even without the lp the engine starts and runs fine. The RASP brings the fp right up as the rpm's start building.

I got just the RASP and not the fuel line package as I do my own fuel lines. It was a bit less $$, but WORTH EVERY . 05 of it. See first paragraph - lp is DOA, but ... .

Bob, great to hear it works even without the POS L/P not working, sweet!!!! :D

I'm thinking that I may just put the lp on a off/on switch, put the switch in the cab. Only use it when I change filters and need to purge air (the RASP MIGHT purge air as well by itself without the lp, do not know yet). That way KISS applies. I want the lp I turn it on. Otherwise turn it off and leave it off.

RASP question. .

I'm thinking about buying a local 24v truck... Reading all the horror stories about the VPs is duanting to say the least. . SO. . I'm reading about the RASP lift setup through the search function till my eyes are bleeding but can't find out the price or were to get one. . If I were to buy the 24v this would be factored in to the price as I don't want a truck that's gonna lay down on me in the middle of the desert... . Thanks for any info...

Believe that DTT (Diesel transmission Tech) sells them. You'll need to wait for your tax return though. :D

A Carter 8psi pusher pump by the tank feeding a stock LP in its stock location has shown to be reliable also, and costs <$100 assuming your stock LP is good.

I got mine from Power by Poole. As has been said, DTT also has them. I believe the price is around $900 for the whole kit.
