Thanks everone for the replies to my throttle sensor question.

I'm kinda new at being a deisel man. Sp-Longhorn suggested having a reflash done. What is a reflash?

its just like updating a computer program

it downloads the most recent upgrades to your trucks computer.

no smoke or mirrors ;)

A "reflash" is when you pull your pants down for a second time.

On your truck it's when the dealer upgrades the software in the ECM (engine computer).

Careful with re-flash. They are an all-or-nothing deal, meaning that while they might fix one thing, you might lose out in another. there have been reports of loss of power, loss of mileage among other problems associated with this procedure.

A reflash to avoid is the one that ''fixes'' a fluctuating oil pressure gauge by making it only read zero and normal pressure.

Ask the dealer how many transmissions the reflash has helped. If they are honest (like the two by me) they will tell you 0. The trans shifting problems (when its not a fried TC or valve body problem) are caused by voltage fluctuations in the TPS to ECM to PCM to trans signals. Who's bright idea was it to put the electronic voltage regulator in the ECM? Voltage fluctuations get worse with age also. Sounds like me.

I checked with the local Cummins dealer here a day ago and they say that the programming is the exclusive domain of Dodge for our trucks.

I would like to have the cold weather start flashes for the '99 but the dealer wants 2. 5 hours. I suspect that actual time would be 20 min.

Any one find a way around dealer flashes?
