I see some people have and Edge EZ as well as another box like a TST. What does the Edge EZ do? THE DARK SIDE IS PULLING ME IN..... SOMEONE TALK ME OUT OF THIS!!!!

The EZ

does two things.

It changes the timing of the engine to the RV specs. This cools off the EGT. That is, it advances the timing (instead of the retarded setting we now have. ) Brett (from Edge Products)told me that the timing aspect alone with a set of DD3's added 25 horsepower.

It also adds more fuel. It is not constant and is some what adjustable. Most of the extra fuel is added down in the Peak torque (1750-2250) RPM's of the engine. If I remember right, approx 60 extra HP at 2000 RPM and dropping off to about 20 extra at 2700 RPM. There are three settings (not adjustable in the cab, but under the hood) whereby one can choose at what boost level the "full fueling" can come into play. <2lbs of boost, <10lbs of boost, <20lbs of boost. It also comes with a boost elbow(for those without the hard line) to keep the wastgate on the turbo from opening at the factory setting. I do not know (other than the turnbuckle and 22 shell methods talked about on this BB) what Edge recommends for the hardlined wastegate turbos.

Two other things it does... ...

Puts a LARGE :D on your face, and makes the F**ds, and Ch**ys REAL small in your rear-view mirror. :-laf:cool:

Use the force Luke....

As you have probably read, you are about to step on to a path that will change your life and drain your wallet. Checkout,www.edgeproductsinc.com :D

Do a search on the EZ there are months of reading material on this subject. I my self have purchased an EZ, but I have to wait until next week to install. Business trip that the truck has to be on and I don't want to chance OH stop put it on put it on put, its sucking me in, I can't stop..... help me

1. It puts a huge smile on your face.

2. It puts a black film on the right rear of the truck and the right side of the 5th wheel.

3. It lets you sail right by the PSD's and DuraMaxes towing that 5ver up a steep grade.

4. It sets you on a path from which there is no known recovery. You will be on a first name basis with your credit card service representatives.

I installed my EZ last month. I have noticed that the engine is louder. Does anyone know what causes this? Guess it doesn't hurt anything.

Screamneagle-

I installed one with the boost elbow last Sunday. I've spent other $'s (see sig. ) on this truck before this, but this is absolutely the best $'s I've spent so far! It runs like a scalded cat now. Can't wait to hook on the 5er and check it out. One more thing, this is the 1st step down that long, long rod littered with credit card receipts, dollars, skinned knuckles, and big grins! :-laf

The EZ advances injection timing. This results in higher peak firing pressures (i. e. , slightly more "diesel" combustion noise). Since the timing was only retarded to reduce NOx emissions, and since the advanced timing is comparable to RV and other applications, it's nothing the engine isn't designed to handle.

Don't worry... . be happy!! :-laf :-laf

Simple really, more power. The TST taps the wire for the injection pump solenoid overriding the pump controller, basically forces it to dump more fuel. The EZ is more diplomatic, it asks the pump controller to add more fuel but in doing so is able to do a lot less additional fueling. The boxes that tap the pump wire can add up to 130 HP on an ETC, the boxes that use the data link or can-bus can add up to about 60. Combine the two and you get more than either alone. The timing advancement function of the smaller boxes lowers EGT as well, and with the big boxes on the higher level you will need EGT reduction unless substantial mods are done to the turbo, intake and exhuast systems.

Hope this clears it up a bit.

Cool! So, as usual, more noise is a good thing! My next mod. is to loose the muffler - more noise - more good:D

dr. kayak, i installed my ez this week and i too noticed an increase in noise and i think the idel speed has increased also, just slightly though, but it's nice to step on the pedal at 65mph and get up and go. Don

Warranty

I read about this in the TDR magazine but three things weren't covered... .

If (completely hypothetical) I managed to save up and eventually get an Edge or TST and plug it in:

a. Does the ECM 'remember' the overfueling and report it at routine maintenance trips to the dealership?

b. Does the ECM 'clear' if both batteries are disconnected for a period of time?

c. Is there correlation between adding these boxes and problems with Torque converters, lift pumps, etc?

I'm worried about my warranty (I know, I know, I just don't have that kind of money to be my own warranty station!) and I don't want to lose it so staying stock til the 70k runs out might be the road I HAVE to take..... :{ :{ :{ for now.

A--Yes the ECM does "remember" the over fueling. It has been speculated that most DC technicians would have to "know what thay were doing" to be able to see it. Taking it to a Cummins shop is a different matter. They would see it right away.

B--As far as I know, disconnecting the batteries will "not" clear the ECM.

C--IMHO there is a correlation.

At an absolute minimum, I would drill out the banjo bolt on the fuel tank side of the lift pump (assuming you are not going to do any modifications to ther est of the truck). Get a fuel pressure guage mounted post filter with the "Mrs. Schrader" hose (Thanks Briar) so you will know if the filter is dirty or worse, if the lift pump is on the way out.
