I had my truck in for some work on the front brakes and while they were test driving it, the check engine lite came on. The mechanic put it on the computer and came back with a Code #PO1693. They didn't know what it meant. Do any of you smart TDR folks know what it means. The check engine lite has never come on when I've driven it before or after this happened.

1693 is a companion code. I believe it tells you an event was recognized by the PCM and ECM.

It usually accompanies another code.

Mike,

I saved some code info at home. when I get there I'll take a look.

On my 2002 I can cycle the key three time and get a code read out on the Odometer . I don't know if you can on a 1999. The only time i had a 1693 it was with another code that tells you the problem.

If you had "only" a 1693 It makes no sense to me. Do a serch on 1693 to start.

Someone may also chime in.

I had only the 1693 my '02 wont tell me what the real code is you have to use a scanner to see what the real code is and see what it means the 1693 is just letting you know that something isnt or wasnt right start your truck up and turn it off 3 times get out and walk backwards around you truck then get back in and check for the code

You might have something in the lines of---low break fluid pressure or something after so long @ normal operation the code may go away ... If your worried go to autozone and they'll tell you what code you got ---they will not clear it out ---they might let you push the clear button... they wont.

ok Mike

From the manual.

P1693 DTC

DBR SCAN TOOL DISPLAY= DTC detected in PCM/ECM or DTC Detected in ECM

DISCRIPTION of Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) = A “Companion DTC was set in both the ECM and PCM.

When my VP44 went out I had a P0216 and P01693 from the key on three times method. At the Bosch shop that had the Chrysler scanner, had the same codes. That is the extent of my personal experience. I wasn’t aware there were scanner only codes?

Guess I better take it somewhere and have it scanned. I can't seem to get any codes by doing the 3 times on and off trick. Maybe I'm not doing it right. Thanks for all your help folks.

Big Mike

the p-1693 is the only code that came up with the key trick on my truck when i had it scanned 2 real codes were present . I had them cleared and fixed the problem and they havent came back .

The dealer has an option on their scanner to see a snapshot of the event. It will tell you/them what parameters were not in range to set the code. If it was a dealer doing the work, get someone who has a clue how to use their equipment!! :-{} If not, disregard! :)
