2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Spots on Heated Mirrors

I hope this doesn't show up twice. Something weird happened the last time I tried to post it.



I was doing some wiring under the dash last night and a little braze filter fell down.



It is about one half inch long about the diameter of a pencil and it had some tiny threads on the end.



Does anyone know what it is and where it goes?
 
I think Toolman called it. It is the brass filter for your BD Exhaust Brake. Just stick it back on the vacuum line. They started mounting them under the dash to keep the moisture level down.
 
Sweet! Glad To help! My BD came witha Teeny Tiny Afe lookin filter. However those brass ones I think flow nicer as my paper dirties up really quick.
 
I have the Jacobs exhaust brake, so I have a slightly different set-up. I do have the same little brass 'guy' on my BD 2-LO kit however. I have mine stuffed under the hood rubber moulding in the engine compartment and have never had a moisture issue causing the vacuum switch to stick (which had been an earlier problem with these switches).

I found the hose coming from the vacuum block for the exhaust brake. It was inside the engine compartment. I might have pushed it out when I was putting in the wiring for my new lights. The end was not threaded. I put the fitting in the end of the hose with a wire tie. . I have read through the installation instructions and I can't find this hose. I had the brake put on a few years back by a B&D recommended service provider so I don't know how it was originaly done. Have I put it on the right hose and should it go back through the firewall into the cab.
 
I would have to look at mine, but all it is for is the vent on the vacuum switch that is probably mounted on your intake horn. They use to put the brass filter right on the switch, but people were experiencing 'sticky' switches apparently from moisture being drawn into this port. The later installation instructions actually called for the filter being extended into the cab where the chance of moisture was minimal. Sounds like you got the correct location and you are probably better off putting in back through the firewall since the hole is already there.
