Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) What is it?

On a '97, what is the canister laying on its side next to the engine directly below the exhaust manifold ???

sounds like the heat exchanger. You both have autos right?

right JB, it's a water to oil transmission cooler.

Yep, supersonic and JB are right... This is also a good point of transmission and coolant leaks. . Kinda tricky to get at if you have a seeper...

Yes, mine is an auto. tpOd, you are correct. I changed the hoses on it and what a PITA! Heat exchanger? So, it's got coolant in it that cools the transmission fluid?

Yep, it cools the transmission and also warms the transmission when the coolant is above atf temps. . pretty nifty idea, theyve done it on gassers thru the rad for years. .
