Under the drivers side battery the battery box has a round button looking thing that pops up when the bat is removed. Anyone know what the heck it does? Thanks Bill

I heard that it was the battery temperature sensor. Just don't let the wire leads come in contact with your vaccum lines to your cruise control they will melt them like they did to mine.

Larry,

So it senses battery temp?

I guess the spring loaded thing just keeps the sensor pushed up to make good contact with the battery?

The temperature of the battery is more stable than the temperature of the air. This is one of the ways the pcm gets ambient temp info. Also the pcm will control charge rate based on battery temperature, don't want to bake potentially frozen batteries.

That answers 2 questions I have had.

1 It didnt look like acid damage on the vacum line to the cruise control so maybe the heat thing did it.

2 I guess I had better hook up the connector to that sensor so it will charge correctly. I didnt think I needed a temp sensor in Texas, its to hot already.

Thanks for the info
