"Killer Dowel Pin" is what the TDR calls it. Correct me if I'm wrong guys, but it is used to line up the timing case(?). It has a nasty way of working its way lose, and after the gears chew it up it ultimately cracks your timing case.
There are 2 ways to fix the KDP. The tab method which requires the removal of the timing case cover to install a metal tab to keep the KDP pin from moving. The tab is held in place by a existing bolt. The second way is the jig fix. In order to do the jig fix you must have the jig!:-laf (duh). The jig fix (which I had no idea how it worked until yesterday) allows you to drill a hole in the side of your timing case and thread it for a bolt to keep your pin from falling out, IF it isn't already to far out. If the drill bit hits the pin and doesn't got all the way through then you have to take the cover off, pound it back in, and the finish the jig fix.
Quite interesting to watch Tom do. He was like a baby with a new toy when he got out his jig to start on my truck. Little did I know it was his first actual jig fix himself. When I asked him he got a
on his face and started to explain he'd seen 2 done and I cut him off saying I trusted him.
Reguardless of how you fix, GET IT FIXED ASAP. Before it's too late.

KDP is costing me $2000!!! It doesn't play!
RWallace, if I could impose on your to post exactly why the KDP cost you $2,000 I would be ever greatful.
My father just didn't understand why I made the drive all the way up to Black Mountain Diesel Tuesday for my KDP fix.
If you could point out in which year models it is known to have a greater chance of falling out I would appreciate it also.
