Neat Fuel Savings spreadsheet

So I go to MFA Oil today to fuel up and Diesel is $4. 66 per gallon and regular gasoline is $3. 75. #@$%!#@$%! $100. 00 gets me a puny little 21 gallons of diesel. :-{}#@$%! I have to give Carter and Nixon Credit, at least they put prices freezes on fuel prices when they started to go nutso. last month I paid $4. 45 in chicago. I'll bet those poor folks are paying over $5. 00! ;probably cheaper to drop a stick of dynamite into the cylinder every time I want an explosion to turn the crankshaft.

I remember those days. Pull into a truck stop with a big rig and be told you can have 10 gallons of fuel, no more, unless you went around and got in line again. Took 5 passes through the pumps over about 2 hours to get enough fuel to make it to the next truck stop, as everyone else was doing the same thing. That was when there were 2 truck stops on I-5 in California between Stockton and the Grapevine -- the two 76 stops in Gustine and Buttonwillow - and that was it.

I think I'd rather have the high prices and plenty of supply than frozen prices and long lines to get just a few gallons of fuel.

I thought it was nuts when diesel hit $2. 00 a gallon. My wife and I are car pooling and I have a son in college. Got my Exxon/Mobile bill for last month today $1400. Never thought my fuel bill would be more than me house note.

On edit, it wasn't just 2 truckstops, it was 2 stops of any kind! There was absolutely nothing out there but those 2 places. No other Quickie Marts or gas stations or motels or anything at all but those two 76 stops.

Guess we were lucky back in the 70's then, as long as I had the money and was at the pump I filled er up. lots of days I only put $3. 00 in for the round trip from home 2 college. 15 miles each way in a 64 chevelle powerglide
