After finally getting all my oil leaks fixed I can tell you that with over 446k miles on the clock I use less than 1/2 qt of oil every 3000 miles, and part of that is blowby. I know cuz I have a Skippy peanut butter jar catching it. :-laf

On edit; didn't see the other post, guess this answer should have gone there. At any rate, other than replacing the head gasket for a coolant leak at about 195k and replacing all the front seals and gaskets, no major repairs.

I like to change my oil every 3000 because of the amount of fuel im pushing :D

Once you turn up the smoke i think fuel starts to pass by the rings and get in the oil and you lose lubricity

After only 160000 and two engine rebuilds you can still see the factory hex marks in the cylinder walls no scratches at all :D

They are rated from cummins at 350,000 miles, ISB 24's are rated for 400,000.

Is there a reference for that, or is it something you heard from a jealous Duracrap boy?

That is the average. Some will run longer, some won't. Being used over the road, they tend to last longer. Partly due to very few short trips, in comparison to the average user.

Is there something wrong with your truck, making you nervous, or something?

No, just curious as to the longevity of the Cummins 12 valve engine and wondering how much life I could expect out of mine. Mine (98) has around 198k on it currently.
