I am out of the AFE oil that came with my Pro-Guard 7 filter. Do I need the buy AFE oil or will any filter oil be OK?

Hate to get in an agrument but Oil bath air filtesr are the best, but they get dirty quickly and the oil has to be changed and I don't think anyone even makes one for a dodge, I personally believe oiled filters such as K&N and AFE are next in line but really need to be serviced more often then most people are willing to commit to. . Such as weekley and maybe even more often in dusty situations. And then the dry flow filters... Mind you the dry filter is the easisest to service and provideds excelent filtration and is good for a decent average of miles and time with the least amount of work.

Again not trying to get in a ******* match, but I agree unless your going to babbysit your filter just stay with the stock design.

K & N oil has worked fine for my AFE filter. K & N oil did not work with the K & N filter. Never use a K & N filter if you drive off road at all.

and I don't think anyone even makes one for a dodge,

Did you just say that? Lets see... . they got ones for Dodge, Ford and Chevy right here just to name one manufacturer Cold Air Intake System aFe Power

And they hardly need to be cleaned WEEKLY. That is ludicrous, I clean mine every 15K miles and could probably go longer. That is also with at least 3-4 trips to the off-road park here in So Cal where things are really dusty. Intake is clean as a whistle when it comes off for a filter cleaning.

my experience with any filters that require oil to be sprayed on them are a problem on a turbo charged engine. the intake tube and leading edges on the turbo blades became so built up with gunk it put the turbo out of balance and i heard a starching sound from the turbo when i shut the engine down. I also noticed it was getting harder and harder to build boost as the blades of the turbo must have been getting weighted down with oil or were no longer efficient because of the gunk built up on it. i bought a new turbo and DRY filters and cleaned every thing. Its still clean just like new and the blades look great on the turbo still.

I am not going to recommend any oil or any filter that requires oil because of my experience with this. i hope that this helps and you can pick your oil or a new filter that will better fit your needs.
