Camper Package

Intro, and a few questions.

I am using Stanadyne. Is there a better additive to use?

I have a 2005 Ram 2500 4x4 Automatic and I am turning

10,000 miles. I want to do what is right for the truck. Should

I trust the Dodge dealership to do what is good for the truck?

Am I better off going to a reccommended diesel mechanic? In

this case Imler Diesel in Sacramento, Ca

Any advise would be appreciated.

This is a trick question right?

Seriously, in my experience there are a few really good dealership diesel mechanics, and... well... more numerous are the ones who aren't experts but who are willing to put new parts on your truck to see if that fixes your problem, and sometimes it does! Ask other CTD guys around Sacramento. Ask who they go to. But if I had to choose between an unknown dealer and an unknown diesel shop, I'd choose the diesel shop hands down.

I have used Stanadyne and I think it's great. I have used both Lubricity formula and Performance formula. I'm out right now, but the next trip through Amarillo I'll stop at Diesel Injection Service and pick up another couple of cases.

Fuel Additives

I use Lubetec SUPER DIESEL PLUS it comes from Canada, it takes care of everything-Lubrication-Fuel Economy -Combustion Chamber Cleaning-Power Increase -Moisture Control - Diesel Fuel Gelling( down to minus 60. )I buy it from the only dealer in the US he's in OR. His # is 503-622-3339 ask for Ted.

Im late on this reply but i don,t take my rig to the dealership. If i had a new rig i would only take it there for waranteed repairs and im sure i would be nervous as hell wile it was there. I take mine to Ken Imlers i would recomend them any day . They are great to deal with and they know what there doing . Oh and the sell stanadyne there also.

How is his fuel gage has the fuel additive affected it? I understand some do. places a film on fuel sending unit and it then fuel level gage readings are way off and can't be trusted.

Thanks, Bill

If his fuel gauge (sender really I guess) has lasted 500,000 miles, I'm guessing the additive helped it. If he's up to 500,000 and it's still reading 1/2, I'm going to start running that tomorrow.

Well Petrone... I rarely trust Dodge Dealerships, and the last one I did tried to charge me over 500 bucks to take the transmission out and see that the gasket for the shift lever had been put in upside down ( trusted a different shop, but I was far away from home and no recourse)). Took me 15 minutes to fix and about 25 bucks for the gasket. All is well.

Stantodyne is a good fuel addative, but Lobro Molly has one out that is recommended by Bosch. Only problem is that it is hard to find. Performance products carry's it and can fiind it at www.performanceproducts.com. Personally I use Diesel Power when I use anything. You can find at any Flying J or even WalMart and it seems to work well. I have over 462,000 on my truck and goes on down the road just fine

I'm using FP60 from lubecontrol... great stuff, but a bit on the expensive side as they go, as for dealerships, in general they are good for selling and warranty but thats it in my opinion.

My local turbo shop recommended (diesel aid +) made by

E-ZOIL. seems to cover everything, they said it was better

to disperse water rather than separate it in the tank.

The dealer that sold him his truck has a fleet of over road trucks. Has ben in to trucking for 23 years. How longe have you ben in fleet trucking??

All depends...

I have used Amsoil products for years and had no problems. I only use one tank of additized fuel before oil changes, and only use a minimal amount of Cetane boost on every tank during the winter, never had a freeze up even under -45 temps. Now on the wife VW bug, I use a little cetane boost on every tank. The ULSD fuels nowadays have enough lubricity additive from the pump.

The question "What is the best fuel additive" is like asking "what is the best color?". ;)

-Ryan

YUP - "best" for what purpose or hoped for result? ;)

IF your goal is lubricity, for best wear protection on everything the fuel touches, outside AND inside the engine, the absolute best I have seen test reports on is a gallon of Bio-diesel added to a tank of fuel - beats the commercial stuff by a MILE! ;):D

AND cheaper, too! :-laf
