Since I have started adding power to the truck I have a jerky feeling coming from the clutch pedal. my old OFE and now my FE does it. but it is less when I do not have the smarty sw on. it did it a little less before with just 100hp inj, now alittle more with the mach 4's. the sound is when I go to release the clutch engaging the clutch only in 2nd gear. the exhaust makes a blub blub blub sound like a gas/cam, which makes the truck jerky not really smooth. I dont know if its normal for this with more timing and more fuel, will a DD clutch help at all. my FE has around 8-9k miles on it. well hope someone out there nows what I'm talking about.

thanks

This sounds to me like more of a fueling issue than a clutch issue. (If I'm getting it right) Because of the smartys more agresive timing and fuel allong with your injectors you get a more touchy throttle. So when RPM's come up with little throttle and load from clutch slippage at engagement the pump goes into a "GO no GO" cycle. I get a similar affair with my mechanichal pumps that are turned up when cold. It seems to be searching for R's but will pass them on the way up and then on the way down. But very quickly. RupRupRup?

Try more R's at take off to get away from that "spot" untill you can completely let the clutch out. Just a guess.

Clutch

I have the same FE clutch as you. The clutch is much more grabby then an OFE. I talked to Peter @ Southbend and he told me to help keep build up off, when in reverse slip the clutch and rev up the motor a few rpms. This will help but not elliminate the grabby performance clutch. I will take off with a little more rpms and it will stop the clutch chatter you feel. I have been dealing with this for over 30,000 miles. I don't care as this is a performance part and the factory clutch slipped at less than 2000 miles :-laf.

thanks for the input

Sounds like its time for a fluidamper.

I have never thought about putting one on. and seeing if this would smooth this out at all. I hear people all the time in forums talk good about them, I just dont know what word to trust with the fluidamper, not saying they are bad cause I dont have any experience with them.

thanks

Are you noticing it with the TST box on? I sold mine for the very same reason. The TST emits a very strong signal that will actually fire the VP intermittently and cause your truck to buck. I seen it on a scope after dealing with my own TST. Since I went back to an Edge Box all is fine. The TST box went to a partner of mine with an auto, and his does it to, but not as noticeable since the TC takes up the bucking... ... ... ... . but you sure can here it out the stacks.

What is with this new reverse clutch action?... ..... lol.

My truck does the same.

It sort of lopes while the clutch is coming out. It got worse with bigger injectors and when a Smarty Catcher SW is loaded. My take has always been that because the clutch is a little grabby it slows the engine rpm's down a bit to low and the low speed governor kicks them back up. The low speed governor is pretty agressive. The engine rpm sits at that threshold until the clutch is fully out.

If I raise the rpm's into the 1000-1100 rpm range before I let the clutch out, I get no lope.
