Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) What is the difference between sliding my 10 plate back or just backing off the throt

My egts are too high and I know I can move it back a tad. Is there a difference between that or backing off the throttle a bit??? I ask because if I back off the throttle I loose too much speed.
