What is the difference between the 89/90 springs and the 91-93 springs? If my memory serves, the 91 and up trucks sat higher. Can someone confirm this?

As I need to redo my springs, I am thinking I might put the 91-93 style in so the truck sits a bit higher.

Thanks!

Robert

The 92/93 trucks had a 6" block in the rear and the front springs were different as well. The front spring bolt was a 5/8" instead of a 1/2".

On the later 1st gens, heavier springs were available with towing packages, and redesigned spring packs, as customer complaints about sagging were beginning to filter up about the 3/4 tons. The 6" block was standard on all 4x4 models that I've seen. Towing package springs had more leaves, with a large overload spring on the bottom. The front springs had thicker leaves, as well. If you want the truck to ride better and sit higher, I'd suggest a new set of springs from Skyjacker. They're usually somewhat reasonable, and by the time you take your springs down, have them rebushed, rearched, and add a leaf or two, you're going to spend close to the same money in the end. I can't find the part number for their 2. 5" kit, but I think it was just under $1,000 for the springs, u bolts, etc. It's been two years since I bought one. If you just want to keep your springs, consult with your local spring shop, and they should be able to suggest what you need. Just my opinion. Good luck!

Well, I think I found out what I am going to do. Skyjacker does also offer a 1" lift for about $170 a sring assy so that would be about $350 to do the front. Should fix the front.

For the rear I think I will do a set of airbags..... :D

The air bags are ok, but if you're not loaded all the time, or drive faster than 50 mph, I don't think you'll be happy, just my opinion. I've got a used set I just took off my 90 model, and they made it ride rougher'n a cob! With a trailer or pile of wood or feed it rode just fine, and sat up good. But empty, it was like ridin' a pitching horse!! I'm dang lucky I didn't break the back glass with my head a time or two!! They only have about 6 inches of overall travel, and if you get off the road and don't have lockers or a real good set of limited slip clutches, it's gonna spin bad when you get one side up, and the other down. I had to take them off, 'cause I'm off road too much, and I need the flex and travel. Don't know how you're gonna use 'em, but that's just my two bits! Good luck, God bless,

Casey

Air bags are for overloads, not lifts. Unless you use an air ride system it will be ROUGH. On a 4x4 a set of recurve springs is about the best to do for a DD and ride.
