Guess I'd better fess up here since I started the poll. I've seen 1695 pre turbo during a 1/4 mile run -- scared the heck out of me, but have had no problems to date, approximately 2 months later. KMFC (Keeping My Fingers Crossed)
It's the EGT's while pulling a LOAD you got to worry about. Drag racing, most of us see over 1600 for a few seconds, which is not a problem. But if that drag race was, say, 5 miles long(racing on the interstate, shame on you ) you might have a problem...
I know of a certain puller who regularly sees over 2200 degrees down the track, without holes in the pistons. No idea how he does it.
Sustained high EGT's while pulling a load for more than a few seconds, can and WILL be a problem in our street trucks. I won't even run at more than 1100 while pulling my 6000 lb. trailer, it's not necessary, nothing to prove to nobody.
over 1800 regularly them pesky little v8 cars. LOL
thow 5 miles is long, and it was only about a mile
anyway I always recomend staying below 1300 for anything more than 15 or so seconds because your on borrowed time then. I know of one truck we all know of that blew up on the dyno. Lasted 15 or so minutes at 1550 degrees. That one ate basically the motors longblock. Besides 15 seconds is usually long enough.
