In reality I want tall narrow tires. Would really like to go with something along the lines of the BF goodrich all terrains. I drive in a lot of snow and dirt raods and want good traction. but still want a fairly decent run on the highway as well. Any of you fellow 3500 types want to fill me in on your experiences I would appreciate it.

The max cross section width (as I recall from a article in the TDR mag 3 or so years ago) has been listed at 9. 4 ". The largest tire most run is 235-85-16.



If you can come up with a set of wheels off a 2001 dually, which comes stock with 235s, then you can go to a 255-85-16. That can put you in 33" diameter territory.
 
I have aftermarket KMC rims. right now I have the 235's but next time around was looking to maybe go a little taller but it isn't necessary, just want to have as much info as possible
 
I believe that the pack problem would be way too much with the 255's on the spacing of a 99 rim... . think the '01's [rim] might be the way to go if you can find them... the post from peewee is a non snow guy from florida... not the best advise for a snow rig with your backspacing IMHO
 
Go with Michelin XPS Tractions in the 235/85/16 size. You can see them on Tire Rack.com. They are all steel retread-able tires with a aggressive tread design. These are heavy duty commercial truck tires. I think if my memory services me Willyslover is running them on his truck and likes them.
 
I'd stay with the 85 aspect ratio

To keep them from holding rocks, then flinging them through your fenders on the highway.



I have Michelin LTX MX 235-85-R16s. I have not run them in snow (obviously), but they clean-out very nicely in mud. Deep tread with siping for better wear and wet pavement traction too.
 
as Pit Bull stated I run the 235x85x16 load range E on my dually ['01. 5 and also on the old rig which was a 98. 5 with the same size on them with no clearance issues or snow pack issues]. . and yes I like them a lot. . they do well in our Sierra Cement snow [very wet and heavy snow . . turns to ice quick where not plowed soon]. . they do quite well in the mountain terrain I drive. . and I love the way they wear as they are a commercial tire with very tuff side walls and do not lean over [empty or fully loaded]. . I live up a very steep road that is very twisty and narrow aprox 3/4 mile up... in very heavy snow pre plow I have been up the road that I didn't get the plow on soon enough and wondered IF I was going to get it to my house. . never stuck yet :) . lots of guys say their dually are not good in the snow, I haven't had a problem yet with either of my rigs and have had the XPS tires on both of them... just drive it like you would any rig in foul weather and it's a non issue... ... 1. note. . I do have limited slip and the SS traction bars to stop the hop in the snow and that made a big improvement in the traction !!

I get 60K+ miles on these tires driving them like a slot car [read in I drive hard in the turns and don't wear out the tires but grind them off ]
