we would waite until the waite to start light would go out

now we start it when it buzzes the lift pump

after it buzzes the lift pump fuel pressure drops back 0. so now we start

it when we first hear the lift pump and the light is still on

It Starts Faster

It Has Fuel Pressure When The Light Comes On When The Light Goes Out The Fuel Pressure Goes To 0 Again

Before The Light Goes Out We Start It

It Starts Easer This Way

If I Did Not Care About My Truck Then Start It Like A Gasser

so wait, it starts easier with the lift pump running or after it's not running?

I would imagine it's easier to start with pressure on the gauge... the grid heaters have nothing to do with it, all they do is run a huge draw on your batteries and tax your alternator. I care about my truck, that's why I start it like a gasser :p

ok when the light comes on thats when the fass fuel pump buzzes and i have fuel pressure for 4 sec or so something like that

the heater grid never comes on here well vary rarely

if I start it after the light and pump stop the starter has to turnover the engine more than when it has fuel pressure

sorry I did not mean to be a smart *** it just came out that way

for me it starts vary easy this way :-{}

when the light gos on at the same time the fuel pressure jumps up

I just like to start it when it has fuel pressure I think it's easy on the vp 44

and starter it just pop on fast it's cool

I was under the perhaps mistaken assumption that the grids fired upwhen the key is first turned on regardless of temp, but like I said, I may be way off.

I'd definately start it with a head of pressure behind it!!!

on my truck it must be in the 50's or cooler before it cycles when it does

come on my amp gauge goes up and down as it cycles

i have all 4 shop manuals on this truck and i thank it needs to be cool out

it has two 90 amp heating grids that is why i'm adding a 200 amp alternator

so if i ever take the truck up north

the stock alternator is ok but i like a little over kill

may not need it to start, but if it starts easier w/ the pressure there, I'd just start it while the lift pump is pumping... why "wait to start" at all if the grids aren't cycling?

Unless your running more gear than stock no reason to get a bigger alt if you move into a colder climate. Trust me, the stock 136amp alt hanldes the load of it all just fine. I also run lights and other winter gear.

I also have a texas star sweet 16 linear driveing the 16 is a galaxy 95T

if you know cb and linears then you know what kind of power i'm doing

these trucks with both battery are a good set up FOR POWER

but on the road a stock radio is best but to each his own :-{}

Not exactly sure what you are wanting to get across. At times my truck will not start unless I "Wait to Start". If it does start, it may run so rough that I regret starting it that way.

Wow, I didn't know people put this much thought into starting a pickup. With mine I start it right up like a "gasser" unless the grid heaters come on, which is different from the wait to start light test that's run everytime your ignition is switched on. The wait to start light will always come on momentarily when you switch the key on, but unless the ambient temp/engine temp is below xx degress no power will be sent to the grids.

I'd bet if you ask the hot shot guys and 99 percent of people who drive these pickups how they start theirs they'll say "I don't pay much attention, just twist the key and start it". They're the people we should be listening to for these maintenance and longevity "secrets".

Jim as for me if i hit the starter when the wait to light goes on and i see i have fuel pressure the engine starts vary easy and and vary quick

i have a fass so i hear the buzz as well

try it both ways

with the light on

then try it after the light goes out and see what you come up with

my truck is a 99 and yours is 2002 but see if it starts easer

after the light my engine turns over i would say 2 times

when the light on and i have pressure it like pops no

I THANK IT EASER ON THE STARTER AND THE VP 44

I go by the buzz of the lift pump then I hit the starter

it funny how fast it starts this way

I think the vp44 likes having some pressure to help it start but what do i know

try it

Guys, he's saying it starts better if you start it like a gasser. If he starts it while it has fuel pressure it starts better than when it drops back down to 0 after the pump kicks off.

On my truck it doesn't make any difference if there's pressure or not, it starts quick either way. I'd say if it starts better like that then keep doing it.

Could you possibly have a slight leak where some air could get in and with the pump running it gets it out, but when it shuts off it gets in there and makes it start a little harder? Just a thought.

OH Geez sorry... . Oo.

If it is warm out, I do the same. I don't wait to start. I just put the key in and turn to start. The truck usually starts after about . 50 seconds of cranking.
