Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) What is the Silencer Ring?

What the heck is this and does my truck have one? Any pictures?

It is a steel ring that looks like a bearing race on the inlet side of the turbo where the rubber air hose connects.

Is there a benefit from removing it? If there is what is the benefit or affect.

It quiets the airflow entering the turbo. If you remove it you will get a louder turbo whine but I seriously doubt that you gain anything by removing it.

It is more likely you lose a little air flow when you remove it. It is there to reduce turbulence in the incoming air stream. That turbulence is what creates the noise.

I see, i have heard people talk about it but had no idea what it was.

It is mostly just a Dodge noise pollution reduction device. Cummins doesn't use them.
