what is this star wheel that ya'll are talking about? I read that it makes you have more smoke. Is turning it up bad for the engine? Which way do you turn it to go up?

I appreciate the info!

It gives you more pre boost fueling... . I dont think it will add anything by itself other than more smoke... . but when you add a cam plate you will need to adjust it for smoke control if you dont like all that smoke... ... .

To turn 'up' the smoke... .

Turn the wheel counter-clockwise - or towards the engine. An 8mm or 5/16" allen key works best for removing the plug... and a flat blade screwdriver will turn the starwheel.

Don't worry about turning the wheel too far... . the wheel itself will bottom out on the AFC housing and it can't fall off or anything.

Your smoke and power increasing adjustments all relate to the rack inside the injection pump being able to travel more in the direction of the radiator. By loosening the AFC up... you allow the rack to move more... and thus you get more power/smoke.

On the top rear of the injection pump there is a large plug with a hex hole in it. Under that plug is the star wheel which looks just like a brake adjuster star and works the same way. Rotated so that the wheel gets closer to the front of the engine as its turned will allow fueling at lower RPM which helps boost to happen sooner. The smoke comes from the added fuel without the additional air from boost to burn it. This is not harmful to the engine and by playing with the star wheel you can tune the smoke to whatever you can live with but the low speed HP gain can be felt easily and is worth doing and is so easy to undo if you dont like it. Move the wheel a lot like all the way forward to start so you can feel the difference and then start tuning it to suit you.

I turned mine about 15 clicks, and with the 191 delivery valves, I have lots of smoke! Just can't wait to get my 370's! Hey, since you are in Stephenville, Send me some Dublin Dr. Peppers!!! haha, just kidding! I love those, and everytime I am in Stephenville, I usually get a case or 2 or 3. :D

well I got in there to the star wheel and much to my dismay someone before me had already beaten me to it. It was maxed out against the AFC housing. Oh well, I guess we'll have to live with the amount of smoke it has now until I can afford some mods. Yeah that Dublin Dr. Pepper is good but you get real tired of it. Pretty much all of the filling stations have it on tap in the fountain machines! I appreciate the info ya'll sent out to me!

Woah !

I just cranked my star!

That much of a difference should not be possible!

But I'm glad it is!:D

Now if I could just get all that new found power thru my slush box and to the 33's out back ,I'd be jammin.

Thanks for the tips

I like this B O M B ing stuff

Quick someone hide my credit cards from me.

star wheel

When I put in my new camplate and tried to adjust my star wheel back a little for less smoke, not that I dont like it but just to see how it would run, but when i turned it back and started my truck and reved it up it just spit, sputtered and cracked, so I just left it all the way foward. NEVER enough SMOKE !!!

smokin Dodge

Make sure the engine is warmed up before trying to rev it as it will do that when cold no matter the adjusment and the star wheel setting shouldnt make that happen anyway
