I had tossed a small bottle of that radiator sealing stuff in last year and found it to cause that same gunk. Is it on the underside of the cap and in the bottom of the overflow bottle? That's my guess!

Mixing different types of coolant will do that, not different brands just different types. Have you ever topped off the system with one of those "compatible with all brands" coolants. mixing the extended lifes with regular or the HOAT types is not good

H'mmm I'l have to remove the overflow and check (in the AM). That is disturbing if it is radiator gunk. I haven't added any... ? Wrong type of anti-freeze maybe. . ?

Thanks TT1 I am thinking you may be correct, the material does not have the particulate appearance that stop-seal type material has.

No haven't done that either. But it has seen service at a tire/brakes/whatever service shop a few times, anything is possible. Regular drain and flush or power flush? or something else?

At least your antifreeze/coolant is the normal color. The 06's have sissy pink coolant! :-laf

Are you using a high silicate coolant? If so, it could be the silicate (which is there to protect aluminum components, which we don't have) plating out. The silicate gunk can clog cooling passages in the radiator, heater core and even the engine. That's why Cummins calls for a low silicate ethylene glycol (green) coolant for the parent bore (no wet liners) B-series engine.
