What is it worth?
Lowell, I see that you have had lots of lookers but no responders. Let me just jump in here and stick my neck out. Maybe someone will chop it off and give a different answer.
The motor and transmission are the major numbers here. A new in the box motor is 7 grand plus. No way will you ever get that for a used motor. Half at best. The transmission is worth maybe 2k with all the connected stuff to put it in a different truck. I think the 99 would have the fith gear nut fix already. The guys that are refitting the first gen Getrags are spending around 2800 dollars to complete the job.
The dana axles are about 1000 each in good condition. Any wreck damage?
While the sheet metal is definitely worth something, Dodge has made a blue million of them and don't expect too much. Maybe 500 for the front clip? Good chance that it will be laying around for some time.
The interior is worth something but is it still good? So you are looking at around 7 to 8 thousand for all of it. Now you have to decide if it worth that much to you.
Why would you want to pay that for a truck that is busted. Add a thousand to that and get a super nice first gen truck that doesn't need anything but a driver.
If you get it all for 3500, you can market the components and make a little money. Most salvage operations will not offer much more than that as some of the stuff is going to be a slow mover. If you didn't double your money, why bother.
So it isn't 'what is it worth' but rather 'what is it worth to you'. Are you planning a conversion project. Does it offer all the parts in one package. What is the owner wanting. Offer less. Haggle. There will be more expense than you first count on whatever the conversion. But from having done several, I can say that there is a great deal of satisfaction in the job completed.
